Quilting the Radioactive Consequences/Spiderman quilt was filled with quilting lessons. I used freezer paper to print the spider on, and ironed it to the quilt and free-motion quilted around it. My needle was moving super fast, but my hands were slow moving the quilt around the spider. Which resulted in stitches less than 0.5mm apart. And most stitches right on top of each other. Which isn’t a problem, unless you’ve quilted the spider upside down. 13 hours later the spider was removed. I traced the template in pencil onto the quilt the second time around, and that resulted in horrific quilting because I couldn’t see the lines as well. I learned that I should always be sure that my quilt is facing right side up. I also learned that it’s probably better just to move on rather than fix a quilting “mistake”. Especially when the only way you would be able to tell the quilting was upside down is if you were looking at the back of the quilt. And how often do people really do that?! #derp!
There are nine blocks on this quilt, and only the center block has the spider in it. The surrounding 8 blocks have only a web quilted in them. Today I need to trim the quilt, use the lint-roller to get all the batting fluff off, stitch the binding to the front and hand-stitch it to the back. I’m planning on washing and drying it tonight and I’m hoping to take pictures tomorrow while at work (they have a fence to hang the quilt from there) and then quickly wrapping it and mailing it off by end of day Wednesday.
I mentioned last week that I ordered labels from Spoonflower and they came in yesterday. I LOVE them! I left a space for me to hand write the Quilt name, the recipient’s name and the date. Note: I did blur out my street address for the photo. The fabric didn’t come that way.
Finally, I just have to throw in a picture of the Elizabeth by Tula Pink fabric bundle I got in the mail this week. *sigh* and *squee*!!
Ok, I’m off and running to get this quilt finished today. It’s date-night tonight, so I need to get my booty in gear. Also, I can’t wait to read what you’ve all been up to this week!!
