To-Do Tuesday 11-6-17 | Ready for Quilting

Hello, and Happy Tuesday, friends! It’s that time again where we see how we did last week with our goals, and plan what we want to accomplish for the week ahead. On last week’s list I had two tasks: filling the last of the bag orders and pulling fabrics for the Bargello quilt. Both of those tasks were checked off as complete!

The last of the bag orders were finished and mailed off this past week. I loved all of the fabrics I used to make these bags. I have always been fascinated by the Gorjuss girls and I loved the print used for the Gorjuss bag. I also made an Americana bag for one customer, and another customer asked for an Air Force bag (as her father served in the Air Force), and a fall themed bag. It’s easier to sew when you love the fabrics you sew with…and these were all great!

Stitch ALL The Things | Santa's Village Top Row Progress

As far as stitching goes, I finished Mrs. Claus’ Cookie Shop in the Santa’s Village series by Country Cottage Needleworks. The top row is finished, and I love it! I haven’t stitched the cookie button on it yet, and won’t until the entire series is stitched since this project is on a scroll frame. Four houses down, and eight to go!

After I finished the Cookie Shop, I wanted to start a chart I’ve had in my stash for just over a year. I am absolutely over the moon (pun intended!) with the Prairie Moon Crypt Club charts. I only became aware of these charts in the last year, so I missed out on getting them before they became Out Of Print and VERY hard to find. I was able to find three of them for not-quite outrageous prices (but very close to that), and now that the holiday season is coming up on us I decided to get the Merry XMas chart done before Christmas. I started stitching this on 32 count crystal Nocturne Lugana by Picture This Plus. I quickly remembered why I hate the crystal fabric from them… I can’t see the holes! I don’t know how they process the fabric to get the glitter, but it seems like whatever it does seals up the holes on the fabric. I found another 32 count evenweave by Fabric Flair in Smokey Blue that matches the flosses nicely and re-started stitching. I plan to work on this one until it’s finished. I have to note that the model in the picture of the chart shows the dress as being white, but the called for floss is pink. I was surprised at that, but I love the pink enough to keep it, rather than change it to a white. The fact that these flosses are Crescent Colors Belle Soie helped that decision. There was no way I was going to pay for another white floss to replace the pink I had already purchased for this chart!

Stitch ALL The Things | Sturgis Quilt Top

This week I will be working on the Sturgis quilt. I need to press it, get it basted, quilt it, and hopefully have it bound and finished by next Tuesday. I was meaning to take this weekend off resting and relaxing, but the Mister got his annual “we have too much crap and things must be cleaned and purged” feeling going on. There was no way I could sit on the couch spending the day stitching while he was working, so I decided to tackle the sewing room and clean, purge, and re-organize it. I had this on my list to do AFTER completing my holiday sewing, but now seemed as good as time as any. I worked all day on Sunday and Monday in the hobby room, and it looks so much better now. I also found that I had already pulled all of the fabrics for the Bargello quilt, they were sitting in a neat pile under a messy pile of fabric scraps. Oops. At least that task was quickly checked of my list! I really should have taken before and after pictures of the room, but it was a shameful mess and there’s no way I wanted anyone to see that! At least now I won’t be moving piles of stuff from one place to the next while I switch over to quilting. Everything now has a place, and is in its place. Oh the joy to be working in a clean and organized room!

This week’s To-Do list:

  • Press, Baste, Quilt, and Bind Sturgis quilt

To-Do Tuesday 10-3-17 | October

Stitch ALL The Things | Potions Bag Set

Hello, friends. It’s October already. I can’t believe it. I am about two weeks away from being done with all current bag orders, and that means I can see some quilting time in sight. Super happy about that, as Christmas will soon be here and I have three quilts to have finished by then. I’ll be temporarily disabling the order form on the website at the end of October, and won’t be accepting any orders until January of 2018. If I keep taking orders, I will never get to my Christmas sewing. Or get it finished, anyway. That’s not an acceptable outcome for me this year.

As far as last week’s list goes, I completed four bag orders. I love the zip top pouches, and especially the Sugar Skulls print. Also, it’s a good thing I love the Potions print so much, since I made three bag sets from that print last week, and have one more to make from that print this week.

I had one customer ask for a Potions Bag, some Grime Guards and an ORT container. If you aren’t sure what an ORT container/jar is, here’s a great post by The Stitching Corner that explains it well: ORT Jars. I looked up a tutorial online and was able to make a simple ORT container in matching fabric. I hope she likes it!

This recent week of sewing was definitely October themed. I’m ready for Halloween now! This bag was made from the last of bit of this beautiful fall fabric. Just looking at this bag makes me want to go bake a Pumpkin pie!

This week I have two more project bag orders, and then I had a request from my cousin to make three Hyacinth bags for her as Christmas gifts. I am not sure how long each bag will take to make, I’m estimating 3 days per bag. So I’ll probably only have one finished by the time next week rolls around.

This week’s To-Do list:

  • Complete two project bag orders
  • Begin sewing Hyacinth Bags

To Do Tuesday 9-26-17 | Stitchy Progress

Stitch ALL The Things | Happy Birds Project Bag

Hello, and Happy Tuesday, friends! Last week’s list was to finish bag orders, and start a third. I did just that! I made a cute bird print bag (I can’t remember the name of the print at the moment), and a bag set out of the very popular Potions print. I also scheduled a couple of days off to hang out with the Mister on a long weekend, and we had a great two days off. The other two days were travel days, and so I woke up Monday morning feeling pretty worn out. I actually had planned to finish the third bag order on Monday, but was feeling too poorly to complete the bags. I have a good head start on them for Tuesday.

I caught up with Clue 6 of the Ship’s Manor Mystery Halloween Town SAL. I really love how this pattern is turning out. Only one clue left! It won’t be released until October 6th, so I have five free stitching days before working on the next house in Santa’s Village, which I have scheduled for the first week in October.

Stitch ALL The Things | Ship's Manor Mystery Halloween Town Clue 6

Since I have five days until I work on Santa’s Village again, I prepped for a new start and it is ready to go! Last week the Halloween Quaker chart I ordered arrived, as did the called for over-dyed flosses I ordered from 123Stitch. Today, I just received some beautiful over-dyed 36 count linen called Green Poison from xJudesign. It works perfectly with the flosses, so I loaded it up on the scroll frame and I’m ready for a new start! I will probably get a few stitches in after I get this posted. I’m too excited to wait until tomorrow!

To-Do Tuesday 9-19-17 | Bags, Bags, and Some Grime Guards

Happy Tuesday, friends! Time to check how we did with last week’s list, and decide what we want to accomplish this week! I had hoped to finish stitching Clue 6 of the Ship’s Manor Mystery Halloween Town SAL last week, but I barely spent any time stitching. I did make some progress, but most of my evenings were busy with other work, and my hand stitching time was spent sewing bag linings closed.

Stitch ALL The Things | Project Bag Collage

Speaking of bag linings, I did complete the large bag order I had been working on for three weeks. I finished it all one day before I anticipated I would be done, and because of that I was able to mail it out on Friday. It was a relief to have that completed a day earlier than expected! I didn’t have time to take pictures of the entire group of bags, so I made a collage of the individual pictures I took for the shop who ordered these. The collage above is all of the large sized zip top bags.

The top two rows of the picture above are large zip top bags. The two bottom rows are the accessory pouches. I really loved the fabrics we chose for these bags. Several bags almost didn’t make it out of the house because I wanted to keep them here with me… forever! Haha! These bags will be listed for sale at Down Sunshine Lane in next week or two.

Stitch ALL The Things | Grime Guards

On Monday I finished an order for a set of five grime guards. These are fun fabrics too, and I am definitely in the fall and halloween mood after making these! The Christmas fabrics are some favorite of my holiday fabrics, and the blue ornaments grime guard is made of a beautiful fabric that has silver metallic all throughout.

This week I have two additional orders scheduled to complete. I will be taking Thursday and Friday off of work for a long weekend, and I’m hoping to spend some great quality time with the Mister! He’s ready for me to come out of the sewing room for a couple of days.

This week’s To-Do list:

  • Continue working on shop order.
  • Stitch Clue 6 of Mystery Halloween Town
