To-Do Tuesday 10-31-17 | A Sleepy Hollow Halloween

Stitch ALL The Things | Sleepy Hollow Framed by Rensel Studios

Hello, and Happy Tuesday, friends! Halloween is my favorite holiday of the year, though you wouldn’t know it by looking at my house this year. I was just too tired to take out the decorations. However, I did receive Sleepy Hollow back from Jill Rensel and Crew and that more than made up for the lack of other decorations!

Working with Jill and Amber was amazing. Their process was very easy, and after I picked out the mats and frame I liked best from the set of three options they sent me, I left the rest up to them… Including their special art work touches. I have to say, I actually requested a different frame than this one, but once I saw the skulls and the spiderwebs on this frame, along with the bone border, I knew this was the frame for this piece. The mats are a black suede, Night Sky tapestry, and Trail Brown regular mat. The flames look like they are chalked on, and they are just amazing. The whole piece framed ended up being 24″ wide by 30″ tall. I absolutely love it, and have it hanging in the living room. This piece is going to be hung year-round. No way am I putting this away after Halloween is over. I should note, these pictures just do NOT do this piece justice, it really needs to be seen in real life.

To give an idea of the size of the skulls, I placed a quarter on the frame. This frame was bigger than I expected, but it’s perfect and I love it!

I finally finished the final Hyacinth Bag and sent the set of three off to my cousin. She ordered them from me for Christmas presents for her girls, I hope they (and she!) love them! Now that those are done, I have started on the last few orders I received last week. I finished an order on Monday for a set of 5 grime guards. I happened to make this same set a month or so ago for another customer. I love these fabrics, and they really do make great holiday themed grime guards!

Stitch ALL The Things | Grime Guard Set

This week I pulled out Santa’s Village to try and get back in the stitching mood. It definitely worked! This picture is three days’ progress on Mrs. Claus’ Cookie Shop. I should have this house finished in three more days, and then the top row of Santa’s Village is done! That will be four houses down, and eight to go. I just love stitching on this one, and especially now that the holidays are coming up!

To-Do Tuesday 10-24-17 | Hitting The Wall

Hello, and Happy Tuesday, friends! How did you do with your projects last week? I have to admit, I hit the wall creatively and really struggled with getting my stuff done.

Stitch ALL The Things | Kitty Hyacinth Bag

I didn’t do any cross stitching at all, I just spent the evenings feeling a bit zoned out and tired. I managed to finish one Hyacinth Bag (better picture to come when all three bags are finished), but forced myself to work on the weekends. I didn’t feel like I was taking time away from Mister, as I barely spent two and a half days in the sewing room during the work week. Instead, we ended up running errands and I gave myself permission to rest a bit from the bag making. These Hyacinth Bags weren’t on a hard deadline, so I felt a little breathing room was okay. Especially because I didn’t have any other upcoming bag orders, other than my own intention to make extra bags to sell this week. Big mistake!

Stitch ALL The Things | Beauty & Brains Project Bag

The Mister and I decided to take a rare nap on Wednesday, and as we were drifting off to sleep I told him of my plans to stop taking commissioned orders by November 1st, as I really needed to schedule time to get my Christmas sewing done. I told him I had not received orders for two weeks via the website, so it was probably a good time to remove the order form from the web page and put up a notice that commissions would not be taken until after January 2018. He agreed, and when we woke up from our nap an hour later I found that I had two orders. I received two more that evening, and one more a day later. I had to laugh at that! I changed my plans from sewing extra bags to put up for sale, to finishing these last commissioned orders. I finished one of them, a zip top project bag in the Beauty and Brains print from Alexander Henry, on Monday. I love this bag! The rest of the orders should take me until November 1st, possibly the 2nd, to finish. Then it’s just me and my quilts and other handmade Christmas gifts. I. Can’t. Wait.

Do you have any sewing plans for the holiday season? Please comment below… I’m excited to read about them!

To-Do Tuesday 10-17-17 | Ship’s Manor Mystery Halloween Town SAL

Stitch ALL The Things | Ship's Manor Mystery Halloween Town Finish

Hello, and Happy Tuesday, friends! I hope you’ve had a good and productive week! I didn’t have much extra time to respond to comments or visit your blogs, but I will catch up on them this coming week. Since I was rushed with last week’s post, I’ve got several pictures to share this week. I had a big finish just over a week ago… The Ship’s Manor Mystery Halloween Town Stitch Along that I was participating in. This was a really fun project to stitch up. The DMC Light Effects floss (the neon green and yellow floss) was rather fiddly to work with, but really gives this finish some pop. Definitely worth the hassle!

Stitch ALL The Things | Ship's Manor Mystery Halloween Town Close Up

There are so many elements to this design, I took some close up pictures. There’s Mr. & Mrs. Ghosty at the bottom of the scene, and they both tend to blend in with their surroundings. There’s a little skeleton girl swinging from the tree, and a witch headed back to her hut, complete with bubbling cauldron. However, my absolute favorite part of this entire scene are the Skelewags… The skeleton pirates! Love the two in the ship, and the one shooting slime balls from the castle grounds. Such a perfect Halloween Town! This was stitched 2 over 2 on 32 count linen in Abracabra from Ship’s Manor and took 48 days to stitch.

Stitch ALL The Things | Burlesque Zombie Portrait

After I finished Halloween Town, I pulled out my girl, Ava, to work on. She was the third cross stitch project I started back in 2014, and is currently my oldest WIP. She is full of confetti stitches, so she feels a bit overwhelming to work on at times. I’ve decided to work exclusively on her for the rest of the month. She’s perfect for October stitching! When I started her I had about 1/3rd of the right side of the frame to finish, the bottom bat on the right side, and some of the blue background (above the top right bat) to fill in. It took me seven days to get that done, but now I am officially halfway done on her! I started working on the bottom portion of her face on Sunday night. I’m anxious to get her profile done, so rather than working the bottom left quadrant from the outside in, I’m working from the middle out. Not sure how much longer this will take for her to be completed. I’m curious to see how much I can get done in the last half of this month!

Stitch ALL The Things | Wonder Woman Hyacinth Bag

As far as bag making, two weeks ago I completed two clear vinyl front project bags. Last week I cut out the fabrics and interfacings for three Hyacinth Bags (pattern by Sew Sweetness), and fused or sewed the interfacings to the fabrics as instructed. I began work on one Hyacinth Bag on Thursday and finished it Monday afternoon. It was my first time sewing this pattern, and was a bit different in construction than what I have done before. I made notes on some things to change for the last two bags, mainly thinning the foam interfacing at the top seam allowance for when the bag is turned and top stitched. My machine handled most of the bulk perfectly, but the thickness of the foam interfacing and the glitter vinyl gave me some skipped stitches there. The picture isn’t the greatest as it was dark out by the time I went to take a picture. I’ll take better pictures when all of the bags are finished.

Stitch ALL The Things | Hyacinth Pattern Pieces

This week I will be working on the last two Hyacinth Bags. A friend also asked me to add purse feet to two new purses she bought. Keep your fingers crossed that will go smoothly for me, I’m a bit nervous ripping open the lining of a bag that I haven’t constructed… I’ve no idea what I will be running across!

This week’s To-Do list:

  • Finish Hyacinth Bag Order
  • Add feet to friend’s purses

To-Do Tuesday 9-19-17 | Bags, Bags, and Some Grime Guards

Happy Tuesday, friends! Time to check how we did with last week’s list, and decide what we want to accomplish this week! I had hoped to finish stitching Clue 6 of the Ship’s Manor Mystery Halloween Town SAL last week, but I barely spent any time stitching. I did make some progress, but most of my evenings were busy with other work, and my hand stitching time was spent sewing bag linings closed.

Stitch ALL The Things | Project Bag Collage

Speaking of bag linings, I did complete the large bag order I had been working on for three weeks. I finished it all one day before I anticipated I would be done, and because of that I was able to mail it out on Friday. It was a relief to have that completed a day earlier than expected! I didn’t have time to take pictures of the entire group of bags, so I made a collage of the individual pictures I took for the shop who ordered these. The collage above is all of the large sized zip top bags.

Stitch ALL The Things | Project Bag Collage 2

The top two rows of the picture above are large zip top bags. The two bottom rows are the accessory pouches. I really loved the fabrics we chose for these bags. Several bags almost didn’t make it out of the house because I wanted to keep them here with me… forever! Haha! These bags will be listed for sale at Down Sunshine Lane in next week or two.

Stitch ALL The Things | Grime Guards

On Monday I finished an order for a set of five grime guards. These are fun fabrics too, and I am definitely in the fall and halloween mood after making these! The Christmas fabrics are some favorite of my holiday fabrics, and the blue ornaments grime guard is made of a beautiful fabric that has silver metallic all throughout.

This week I have two additional orders scheduled to complete. I will be taking Thursday and Friday off of work for a long weekend, and I’m hoping to spend some great quality time with the Mister! He’s ready for me to come out of the sewing room for a couple of days.

This week’s To-Do list:

  • Continue working on shop order.
  • Stitch Clue 6 of Mystery Halloween Town
