To-Do Tuesday

To-Do Tuesday 8-28-18 | We Have A Sailor

Hello, and Happy Tuesday friends! A short post this week, as we are still recovering from our trip to Chicago to see our son graduate from Navy bootcamp. It was a whirlwind trip, with only about 10 hours of sleep over three days, lots of time in airports, and some hours spent with our Sailor before he headed off to Goose Creek, South Carolina to start his A School in the Nuclear Power Program.

I will say that the ceremony is a sight to behold! Our son stood taller and was more confident and self-assured. He was happy, and more than ready, to head off to South Carolina. And I was filled with pride and hardly any tears at all (truth!), until it was time to say, See You Later! I tried to keep the tears from him, but he saw anyway. Sometimes it’s too hard to hide the mom-tears. But he arrived safe and sound and had a great Sunday settling in and relaxing a bit.

I hope you all had a great week yourselves, and I hope to catch up with you all soon! This week I plan on trying to find a routine again. We’ll see how that goes!

  1. Congratulations to the new sailor and to you! He’ll be learning some great skills and performing an important duty. I’m an engineer in a nuclear power plant in Canada so cheers to a new nuclear professional!

    1. Thank you! I know he is very happy to be there and go through this schooling. I also know I won’t be chatting with him as frequently due to his studies, but it sure seems to be a great fit for him!

  2. congratulations to you son. My grandson is in Army boot camp right now. My husband was in the Navy and did the nuclear thing too but was in California and Idaho for his training I don’t know where they do it all now. He was in back in the 70’s

    1. Thank you! And thanks to your grandson for his service! The only bootcamp the Navy has now is in IL. They got rid of the Florida and San Diego boot camps. As far as the Nuclear training, most of that is in Goose Creek, South Carolina now. I think they are shutting down the Ballston Spa prototype school soon, so I think everything will be in SC shortly.

  3. I may have mentioned this last time you wrote about your son that my Dad was also in the Navy and how proud you must be. I’d also like to say that he was assigned to a nuclear submarine in the sixties. Good luck to him. I am grateful of his service to our country.

    1. I think you may have mentioned that your dad served in the Navy, but not the nuclear submarine part. Wow! Big thanks to him for his service! I am excited for Josh to take this journey too, but I do have to admit to a bit of nervousness about serving on the submarine part. I know he’ll be fine though, it’s just the mom-thing, I think…LOL!!

    1. Hi, Roseanne! It was such an amazing experience! I think the thing I’m most happy about now is that I get a text message from him everyday. So the communication being restored has been wonderful! He is settling in well in South Carolina and even said the weather isn’t as bad as he expected! Although I think hurricane season is about to start for them, so he may change his mind about that soon enough…Hahaha!

  6. Congratulations to you all! I used to live in Goose Creek when my now ex-husband was stationed at the Navy base in North Charleston. If you get a chance to go visit there, do it! I think your son will love the area!
