To-Do Tuesday 2-20-18 | A Quilt Finish!

Stitch ALL The Things | Finished 2013 Aurifil Designer BOM quilt
Hello, and Happy Tuesday friends! I am so excited to tell you I actually have a quilt finish this week! I originally intended to work on an old UFO, my Kate Spain Paradiso quilt top, but I didn’t have a backing fabric I liked well enough for that quilt. I found some wide-back fabric I liked, ordered it, and it should arrive in a day or two. In the meantime I grabbed another UFO quilt top to finish; my Aurifil 2013 Designer block of the month quilt.

This quilt is actually made up of left over fabric I had when I joined Fat Quarter Shop’s Among The Stars Block of the Month by It’s Sew Emma in 2012. They sent so much fabric (Sentiments by 3 Sisters for Moda) every month that I was able to make another lap-sized quilt from it all! I joined up with the free Aurifil Designer Block of the Month that Pat Sloan hosted in 2013. I used the left over fabrics and even had enough for sashing and an outer border. I finished the quilt top in July of 2015, and it stayed hanging up until three days ago. The now completely finished quilt size is 50″ x 65″. I quilted a meander all-over pattern as seemed to work best with all of the different blocks in the quilt. I am so happy to have a quilt taken off its hanger, finished, and already draped over the back of my couch.

I am such a happy camper getting this quilt done. I have two more finished tops to get quilted. One of them is the Paradiso quilt I mentioned, and since I expect that fabric to arrive shortly, that is what I will be working on this week. The other quilt is my completed Vintage Quilt Revival top, and that may take a lot more effort to get done. I really want to do justice to the top with my quilting, so I have to come up with a plan for that. But that will be on a future To-Do list!

I still need to visit your posts from last week, and I’m sorry for my delay. My week really got away from me, but I will get them read on Tuesday morning!

This week’s To-Do list:

  1. Hi Christine!
Great finish and how fabulous that it’s an old UFO! The quilt is really pretty – all those different fabrics play so well together, and I love the quilting. ~smile~ Roseanne

    1. Thank you so much, Roseanne! I felt so happy, and a bit of guilt go away, once that quilt top was finished! It only took three days to get it done, I really should have completed it a long time ago! But, it’s done now and that’s one UFO checked off of my list!

  2. Hurrah for your finish! How interesting those little corner squares are! Just one little piece gives the impression of a faint chain stringing the blocks together. It’s always fun to finish a quilt we’re giving away, but it’s extra special when it’s staying home with us. Snuggle and enjoy the last of these winter months, but you wouldn’t know it here by the weather. The birds are singing like it’s spring, and it’s supposed to hit 70F today.

    1. Thank you! I’m not sure what prompted me to do those little squares, but I do like the look they give. It was nice being able to create another quilt from left over fabrics. The weather sounds amazing! We actually woke to 37 degrees this morning, sun shining and blue skies, but that is very cold temps for our climate. I hope the nice weather stays for you, and lets some of that water you have dry up!

    1. Thank you! I just signed up for Angela Walters FMQ challenge too, and joined the FB group, so thank you for sharing that! I was going to refer to her dot-to-dot quilting books for that piece, but this may be the better way to go… Challenge myself with each block!

    1. Thank you so much! I have no idea why, but all of your comments ended up in the Spam/Trash! So I am so sorry that I didn’t see them until now! I will try and go back and respond to the ones I can find (they’re all back in date order, so I will have to scroll back a ways). I truly apologize, I don’t know what happened!
