To-Do Tuesday 8-7-17 | Back to life…

…Back to reality. Soul II Soul’s lyrics have been playing over and over in my head. Time to get back to work around here!

This week I’ve contacted all of the people who requested bags before I left for the summer, and scheduled all of my sewing onto the calendar. I’ve already pulled fabrics for the various bags, and my once-clean sewing room is already looking like a mess. I’ll be working on these until mid-September, and hopefully after that I can get started on the quilts I want to complete before Christmas.

I did finish my travel cross stitch WIP on the way home from Oregon: I Cross Stitch by Clouds Factory. I stitched it 2 over 2 on antique white jobelan. I changed the red and grey from the called for colors to 498 and 318, respectively. I wanted to get another chart picked out for my travel wip, but after going through my kitted charts I couldn’t make a decision. I have time to figure it out, though. Too many fun charts to stitch, and too little time! I haven’t stitched on anything else since we returned home. Instead, I’ve been incorporating my summer thrift shop finds into my stash and kitting up new charts. Sometimes that’s just as much fun as the stitching!

This week I will be working on making the bags. I’ve scheduled my weekends to be free of all sewing, except for this coming weekend. Last week I hinted at talking about a very important project, and this weekend I will be finally working on that project. If you are on Instagram and follow Crafty Cop (Jessica), you may have seen her organizing a blue Raspberry Kiss block drive using Heritage Threads’ tutorial. She started this as a way to honor our fallen heroes who were lost in the line of duty by making a quilt for their family. She called just for blocks, but the response has been tremendous! Last I saw she has received just over a thousand blocks. She has also had people send in backing, batting, binding, thread, and even money for postage. She has had people volunteer to piece, quilt, and bind the entire quilt, and others who have volunteered to piece and send the quilt off to their local quilters. She has had long arm quilters offer to do the quilting. Even still, others have offered up prizes to help encourage people to make more blocks to send for quilts. I am absolutely amazed by the outpouring of support. I wasn’t able to make anything until we returned home, so now that I’m back I will be getting blocks made and a package of other things put together and sent to Jessica. She has made a point to let us know that she is arranging to have the quilts presented personally by the fallen officer’s local departments (obviously law enforcement and their families are necessarily suspicious of packages sent to them by strangers). Sadly, two of the quilts are already spoken for, as the loss of Officer Miosotis Familia started this movement, and the second quilt will be going to the family of Lieutenant Aaron Allan of Southport, Indiana who was killed in the line of duty on July 27th. I have tremendous respect for our law enforcement officers and I am feeling so sad, and honored at the same time, to be able to participate in this. If you are interested in getting more information, or participating in this, please direct message Jessica/craftycop on Instagram.

  1. My sister is good at finding fabric to add to her stash from thrift shops – me not so much, need to improve! all the best with your goals for this week. Lovely idea re making quilts for families of fallen heroes.

    1. I usually find more stitching stuff, rather than fabrics, at the thrift stores. I was really surprised to get some good fabrics this last summer! I’ve had to rework my list a little this week, but progress is being made and that is just the nature of things!

  2. Thanks for posting about Crafty Cops Raspberry Kiss block drive. I wasn’t aware of this. I wasn’t able to access the Raspberry Kiss link; but I think that’s because her Instagram account is private and I don’t follow her yet. Hopefully she’ll accept my request so I can check out the details. Glad you made it home safely!

    1. Yikes, I didn’t even think about her account being private. You’ve got quilting all over your profile, so I’m sure she’ll accept (if she hasn’t by now, let me know and I’ll message her).

    1. Thank you! I like that these link ups keep me focused and on track; I’m going to need it over the next month! That is a lot of fabric for bags, I tend to pull the fabrics as bags are ordered to make sure I have enough to make what is requested. Those piles sure do make my room look messy though! LOL!

    1. Aw, thanks! There are some different fabrics this time around. I am running out of unique novelty fabrics here and had to order some. I’m glad to get back to work, but I’m more looking forward to getting to those quilts!

    1. Yes, there is Beauty & The Beast fabric in that pile! I have several bags I’ll be making and selling from that line. I am anxious to get to the selfish sewing soon, but work first! LOL!
