Happy Tuesday, friends! It’s time to check our lists and plan for the next week! I am happy to say that I’ve got a couple of finishes to share, and some progress on my cross stitching.
I was thrilled to have finished The Alpine Quilt this past week. After finishing it, I had one day to take pictures and get a Finished Friday post written before the Mister left for Oregon. Since we are in the desert and Fir trees aren’t in abundance, I actually considered taking my quilt and helper kids to some of the stores in town that had their Christmas Decorations up to take a picture. Can you even imagine walking into your local Walmart and seeing some crazy woman trying to take pictures of a quilt near the fake Christmas trees??! It was a crazy moment in my head, for sure. Then I came to my senses and remembered the tree that the town decorates every year for Christmas. As soon as the kids came home from school I shoved them, and the quilt, into the car and headed to the park to take the picture. We won’t talk about the frustration of trying to stay out of the sun, but not stay in the too shady area and then me unknowingly standing on top of a fire ant hill while trying to direct the kids. Did you know that most Arizonans wear flip-flops year round? Sigh. Let’s just end this by saying that I put on quite a frantic display in the middle of town, and that I was able to at least get one successful picture.
I also finished the reversible placemats and the napkins. I wasn’t too thrilled with the ornament side of the placemat, but I absolutely loved the cardinals side of it. And the striped napkins? LOOOOOVE!!

Lastly, I have made some progress on my Whacky Witches in Stitches cross stitching. I wanted to get a bit more done on this, but my evenings ended up being much busier than anticipated. Still, I just love this witch and I am very close to being done with this clue.
This week I am going to work on the Christmas Mug Rugs for the Oregon house and think about what project I want to do next. I may have some secret sewing in my future as well.

Stitch ALL The Things 
I had a hard time keeping my mind on your quilt when you said your Walmart already had Christmas decorations up! What?! It’s not even Halloween!
Your finish is a real Ta-da! moment. I love the simplicity, but understated elegance in the design. I think this pattern works well to highlight a few special fabrics. Really quite lovely!

It is just crazy that stores have their Christmas decorations up already. My daughter and I went to Home Depot a few days ago to pick up some Halloween decorations that were on sale, and when we walked in the door we had to go through all of the Christmas trees and decorations to find the tiny Halloween display. Good grief. At least let us get through Halloween before putting up Christmas stuff!
I really do love this pattern and I agree that it does highlight fabrics well. I can see another of these quilts in my future, but with a more scrappy theme, I think.

I absolutely cannot get over how gorgeous your Alpine quilt is. I mean it’s just stunning! Also, I was in Belk’s last week and almost turned around and left because I was appalled that Christmas had taken over already. I swear it’s worse every year. It’s like Santa & the elves got drunk and vomited tacky Christmas decorations all over everything. Can’t they at least wait until AFTER Halloween? Is it really too much to ask??? Your Whacky Witches are coming right along and are totally adorable! Now, I’m off to check out your tutorial!

I have to admit to Googling what a Belk’s was. Looks like a Macy’s or a Nordstrom type store? It’s ridiculous that Christmas decorations are up already. They used to at least wait until Halloween was over. Just this week Callie and I went to Home Depot to buy a full-size skeleton for Halloween decorations and I couldn’t find them until after we went through the huge Christmas tree display. Ridiculous! I hope I can get the Whacky Witches done before Halloween. I think I’ll make it this year!

Oh no! Fire ants! I hope you have some great cure for the stings. Poor you! But I did get a giggle over envisioning you doing a little dance in the middle of town! [Sorry] (My DIL has a ‘fun’ fire ant story from when she lived in TX.) But really! I like your idea of invading Walmart for the perfect photo op! DO IT! But, then again, you second idea worked really well sans the fire ants.

The fire ants were quite the experience! The kids tried to be empathetic, but watching me scream, jump, and kick off my flip-flops at the same time as bending over to slap them off my feet kept them laughing all the way home. I can’t blame them, I am sure it looked hysterical. And the best part is that this park is in the center of the town’s only roundabout. So, quite a few people got to see that craziness in action! Hee Hee Hee! Brad ran me a foot bath with epsom salt and I soaked my feet for a while. I think that really helped with the swelling. Now I only have about 10 pin-prick scabs from the bites. Those ants may be little, but they mean serious business!
