To-Do Tuesday 3-31-15 | Starting the Iron Man quilt

Happy Tuesday… I hope you’ve all had a fantastic week!

I was able to get my spring cleaning and freezer meals done in one day. Yes!! I didn’t expect to have a lot of time for starting a quilt for my other nephew other than to pre-wash the fabrics. Not only did I get them pre-washed, I starched & pressed them, cut all the pieces for the blocks, got all the parts of the block sewn together and finished three of nine blocks!!

Iron Man Quilt Blocks

When I was cutting my fabric pieces, I realized that I calculated the red yardage needed completely wrong. I ended up being a half-yard short. I ordered the additional yardage yesterday (and may have HAD to order a few extra half-yards from the Rustique line designed by Emily Herrick for Michael Miller to get free shipping). Hopefully it will be here by next week. I am very pleased with how far along I already am with these blocks. All I have left to do is cut (6) 6.5″ x 10.5″ rectangles, sew them onto one side of the center blocks and finish assembling the remaining six blocks. So glad for this unexpected progress!

This week’s To-Do list:

  • Weed the yard
  • Work on designing quilt back while waiting for fabric to arrive
  • Piece quilt back??

    1. Thank you!! I remember seeing this line last year from al the Spring Market pictures but then forgot about it. I think Stash Fabrics just had some sale mentioning it, and when I saw the pictures I remembered that I LOVED the colors. I can’t wait for the fabrics to get here; I’m sure they’re gorgeous!!

  1. Look’n good! Do you always pre-wash your fabrics first? I suppose I would, if using red. I hope you get your fabric order in soon. And in the mean time – Spring! Yippie! Here in NE IN, I was happy to have a nice warm day today to go on a walk with my DIL and grandbaby.

    1. Hi, Sharon! I rarely ever pre-wash my fabrics. When I was making the Spiderman quilt I started by pressing and starching the fabrics. I noticed that red dye was transferring to my ironing board. So I ended up pre-washing that fabric and thank goodness I did!! My color catchers were bright red the first wash! Since this quilt is going to have so much red in it I decided to pre-wash all my fabrics again. I had hardly any dye come off of this Quilter’s linen. So glad about that!! So, that was the long answer… the short answer would be that I’m the same as you… I pre-wash if I’m using red. (Leave it to me to drag an answer out…LOL!!!)

So glad spring has arrived there!! Yay!!! How wonderful to enjoy the beautiful weather, and the company of your DIL and your grandbaby!!

Thank you so much for taking the time to comment... You just made my day!!
