To-Do Tuesday 11-21-17 | Happy Thanksgiving!

Hello, and Happy Tuesday friends! If you are in the States, I expect many of you are busy preparing for the upcoming holiday feast. I will be having the linkup live this week and next, but I hope you will be enjoying time with those special to you, and working on your projects only if you feel like doing so!

Stitch ALL The Things | Sturgis Quilt & Throw Pillows

On last week’s list I had noted that I wanted to finish the Sturgis quilt, and start the Bargello quilt. I checked both of those off of my list. I also ended up making two 17″ square pillow forms, and made two 16″ quilted pillow covers from the Sturgis quilt fabrics. When I showed the pillows to Mister, he LOVED them! He seems super pleased with his finished quilt and pillows, and that is always what I hope for when I give someone a quilt. I hope to have a Finished Friday post by this Friday or next.

Stitch ALL The Things | Surf Song Bargello Fabric Pull

My son saw the finished quilt for Mister and, once again, pointed out–in a rather sad and pouty voice–that he was the only one in the family who still didn’t have a quilt. He doesn’t know that the Bargello quilt is for him! He requested an ocean-themed quilt; specifically Poseiden’s Trident, but I have never appliqued and am too terrified to attempt something like that for his quilt. Instead, I found the Surf Song quilt pattern from the book Twist and Turn Bargello Quilts by Eileen Wright. I think he’ll like this quilt, especially as he is a soon-to-be Navy man (by this time next year, anyway).

Stitch ALL The Things | Cutting Surf Song Strips

I started pressing and cutting the strips today. This quilt is 96″ x 99″, but I’d like to keep his an XL Twin size in case he can have a quilt with him in A School (after boot camp). So I am omitting one of the 24 colors, and will not be adding all of the called for rows. I am aiming for a 76″ x 94″ finish. A bit bigger than an XL-Twin, but that should work fine anyway. I’m trying really hard to stay organized, since this is my first time making a bargello quilt. Post it notes are everywhere, and I’m stapling fabric snippets to a piece of paper to make a fabric map. Hopefully I won’t lose track of what I’m doing when sewing everything together!

Stitch ALL The Things | Merry Xmas 11-19 Progress

I didn’t get as much stitching done as I expected this past week. I spent most evenings hand sewing the quilt binding down, so I just put the Merry Xmas project to the side. I did finish The Gentleman and added the family pet, Mr. Bones, to the piece. Hoping for a finish this week!

It will be a quiet Thanksgiving for the Mister and I, as the kids will spend the holiday this year with their dad. That still means I will be preparing a full holiday meal for us because we love leftovers! There’s just no pressure to have it on the table by a certain time, and I love that! Also? Cooking and spending the whole day in your comfy clothes (aka Jammies)… AWESOME!! I am thankful for all of you who share what you are working on with me every week. I love seeing all of your progress, and the diversity of projects is wonderful… You all inspire me to keep crafting and creating and I appreciate that very much! Many good wishes to you all for a week filled with lots of food, fun, laughter, and blessings!

This week’s To-Do list:

  • Finish cutting out bargello strips, and start sewing the stripsets.
  • Keep working on Merry Xmas stitching
  • Enjoy Thanksgiving!

To-Do Tuesday 11-14-17

Happy Tuesday, friends! Another week has passed and we’re checking our lists from last week and preparing new lists for this week. On my list last week was pressing the backing, batting, and quilt top; basting, quilting, and binding it. I also had working on my Merry Xmas cross stitching progress. Let’s see how I did…

Stitch ALL The Things | Sturgis Quilting Progress

Well, I pressed all the parts of the quilt sandwich, I basted it, and I quilted the big squares of the motorcycle print. I went with a sort of maltese cross design, but it didn’t turn out very well. I looked up the last time I free-motion quilted and it was my Christmas quilt from last year… that I finished in September of 2016. So it has been 14 months since I last did free-motion quilting. To say I am rusty and need to re-learn to keep my foot pedal speed equal with my pushing the quilt around is an understatement. Of epic proportions. Thankfully the Mister is not expecting a perfect quilt and is happy with whatever comes of my reacquainting myself with my sit-down longarm machine. He told me it didn’t matter if the lines were straight enough, since I was going to wash it and it would shrink and get that scrunchy old quilt look I love anyway. Love that man! I still have filler quilting to do around the blocks, and I will work on that this coming week.

Stitch ALL The Things | Prairie Moon Merry Xmas Progress Day 9

As far as my cross stitching, I’ve made some decent progress on it that I am happy about. I’m not sure how much longer it will take me to finish this, but I think maybe a week and a half at the most. I’m loving the creepy Christmas feel this one has. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea, to be sure, but it’s definitely mine!

Speaking of Christmas, have you started your holiday crafting? Will you be making gifts this year or shopping for gifts? This year will be a combination of both for me. I am excited to see what you all have been working on!

This week’s To-Do list:

  • Finish quilting and bind the Sturgis quilt.
  • Keep working on Merry Xmas stitching

To-Do Tuesday 11-6-17 | Ready for Quilting

Hello, and Happy Tuesday, friends! It’s that time again where we see how we did last week with our goals, and plan what we want to accomplish for the week ahead. On last week’s list I had two tasks: filling the last of the bag orders and pulling fabrics for the Bargello quilt. Both of those tasks were checked off as complete!

The last of the bag orders were finished and mailed off this past week. I loved all of the fabrics I used to make these bags. I have always been fascinated by the Gorjuss girls and I loved the print used for the Gorjuss bag. I also made an Americana bag for one customer, and another customer asked for an Air Force bag (as her father served in the Air Force), and a fall themed bag. It’s easier to sew when you love the fabrics you sew with…and these were all great!

Stitch ALL The Things | Santa's Village Top Row Progress

As far as stitching goes, I finished Mrs. Claus’ Cookie Shop in the Santa’s Village series by Country Cottage Needleworks. The top row is finished, and I love it! I haven’t stitched the cookie button on it yet, and won’t until the entire series is stitched since this project is on a scroll frame. Four houses down, and eight to go!

After I finished the Cookie Shop, I wanted to start a chart I’ve had in my stash for just over a year. I am absolutely over the moon (pun intended!) with the Prairie Moon Crypt Club charts. I only became aware of these charts in the last year, so I missed out on getting them before they became Out Of Print and VERY hard to find. I was able to find three of them for not-quite outrageous prices (but very close to that), and now that the holiday season is coming up on us I decided to get the Merry XMas chart done before Christmas. I started stitching this on 32 count crystal Nocturne Lugana by Picture This Plus. I quickly remembered why I hate the crystal fabric from them… I can’t see the holes! I don’t know how they process the fabric to get the glitter, but it seems like whatever it does seals up the holes on the fabric. I found another 32 count evenweave by Fabric Flair in Smokey Blue that matches the flosses nicely and re-started stitching. I plan to work on this one until it’s finished. I have to note that the model in the picture of the chart shows the dress as being white, but the called for floss is pink. I was surprised at that, but I love the pink enough to keep it, rather than change it to a white. The fact that these flosses are Crescent Colors Belle Soie helped that decision. There was no way I was going to pay for another white floss to replace the pink I had already purchased for this chart!

Stitch ALL The Things | Sturgis Quilt Top

This week I will be working on the Sturgis quilt. I need to press it, get it basted, quilt it, and hopefully have it bound and finished by next Tuesday. I was meaning to take this weekend off resting and relaxing, but the Mister got his annual “we have too much crap and things must be cleaned and purged” feeling going on. There was no way I could sit on the couch spending the day stitching while he was working, so I decided to tackle the sewing room and clean, purge, and re-organize it. I had this on my list to do AFTER completing my holiday sewing, but now seemed as good as time as any. I worked all day on Sunday and Monday in the hobby room, and it looks so much better now. I also found that I had already pulled all of the fabrics for the Bargello quilt, they were sitting in a neat pile under a messy pile of fabric scraps. Oops. At least that task was quickly checked of my list! I really should have taken before and after pictures of the room, but it was a shameful mess and there’s no way I wanted anyone to see that! At least now I won’t be moving piles of stuff from one place to the next while I switch over to quilting. Everything now has a place, and is in its place. Oh the joy to be working in a clean and organized room!

This week’s To-Do list:

  • Press, Baste, Quilt, and Bind Sturgis quilt
  • Work on Merry Xmas stitching

To-Do Tuesday 10-31-17 | A Sleepy Hollow Halloween

Stitch ALL The Things | Sleepy Hollow Framed by Rensel Studios

Image from Rensel Studios

Hello, and Happy Tuesday, friends! Halloween is my favorite holiday of the year, though you wouldn’t know it by looking at my house this year. I was just too tired to take out the decorations. However, I did receive Sleepy Hollow back from Jill Rensel and Crew and that more than made up for the lack of other decorations!

Working with Jill and Amber was amazing. Their process was very easy, and after I picked out the mats and frame I liked best from the set of three options they sent me, I left the rest up to them… Including their special art work touches. I have to say, I actually requested a different frame than this one, but once I saw the skulls and the spiderwebs on this frame, along with the bone border, I knew this was the frame for this piece. The mats are a black suede, Night Sky tapestry, and Trail Brown regular mat. The flames look like they are chalked on, and they are just amazing. The whole piece framed ended up being 24″ wide by 30″ tall. I absolutely love it, and have it hanging in the living room. This piece is going to be hung year-round. No way am I putting this away after Halloween is over. I should note, these pictures just do NOT do this piece justice, it really needs to be seen in real life.

The lower left corner. Absolutely amazing!

To give an idea of the size of the skulls, I placed a quarter on the frame. This frame was bigger than I expected, but it’s perfect and I love it!

I finally finished the final Hyacinth Bag and sent the set of three off to my cousin. She ordered them from me for Christmas presents for her girls, I hope they (and she!) love them! Now that those are done, I have started on the last few orders I received last week. I finished an order on Monday for a set of 5 grime guards. I happened to make this same set a month or so ago for another customer. I love these fabrics, and they really do make great holiday themed grime guards!

Stitch ALL The Things | Grime Guard Set

This week I pulled out Santa’s Village to try and get back in the stitching mood. It definitely worked! This picture is three days’ progress on Mrs. Claus’ Cookie Shop. I should have this house finished in three more days, and then the top row of Santa’s Village is done! That will be four houses down, and eight to go. I just love stitching on this one, and especially now that the holidays are coming up!

Stitch ALL The Things | Mrs. Claus' Cookie Shop Progress

This week I will be finishing the last three bag orders before I start my quilting and holiday sewing. Did you read that?! This is the LAST WEEK for bags this year!! I am ready to get going on my quilts! Woo Hoo!!

I can’t wait to see what you’ve all been working on this week. I appreciate you all linking up every week with me and helping me stay focused on my list and my goals for the week. It’s always a joy to see what you all are working on, and your goals for the week!
