To-Do Tuesday 7-19-16 | Busy Hands Quilts

This week To-Do Tuesday is being hosted by Myra of Busy Hands Quilts. Make sure you head over HERE to link up your posts this week. Also, check out some of Myra’s latest posts. She has started a new Finished or Not Friday linky party that I am excited to start linking up with. She also recently released her Brick Cottage Lane {2} pattern. I love it (and already have it in my pattern library)!!

Kitchen Curtain

I know I promised finished pictures of the house last week, but I wasn’t as ready as I thought. This is our last week here in the house for the summer, so I absolutely will have pictures next week. I did manage to have time to get my sewing machine out of the motor home to make a valance curtain for the kitchen window. I used the Church Cookbook print from the Feed Company line by Sweetwater. I adore all of the little recipes on this curtain, and what better place for it than in the kitchen?! I probably should have put some accent fabric on it to make it pop, but I didn’t want to cover up the recipes.

Those jars!!!

Those jars!!!

Jill, Brad’s daughter in law and one of my favorite people on the whole earth, gave me these vintage Bell mason jars that her dad had at his house. I have to admit to swooning a bit over them. Vintage blue? Glass lids? Ah, yes. And… still swooning.

Since I went to all the trouble to pull the sewing machine out, I also decided to make placemats and napkins. I used the Quick & Simple Reversible Placemat Tutorial by Whipstitch to make these. I used the cream and red Labels print from Feed Company by Sweetwater for one side and the Church Cookbook print for the other side.

I also made napkins to go along with the placemats out of the red Farmers Plaid print from the Feed Company line. I used the the Make Your Own Cloth Napkins tutorial from Skip To My Lou and chose the mitered corner method. And, seriously, those corners turned out amazeballs!! Brad walked up to me at one point and I told him that he didn’t know it, but he should be totally impressed with what was happening because mitered corners aren’t exactly easy. I love these napkins!

To Do Tuesday 5-3-16 | Shifting Into Overdrive

After feeling like I was getting so far behind on my projects, I seemed to have kicked into high gear this past week. By Friday afternoon I still had not received my replacement grommet die, so I ran to Harbor Freight and bought some cheap grommet setting pliers. It worked fine setting grommets into the bag I was testing, so I was able to finish that up on Sunday and send my tester notes in to the pattern designer. I was feeling more and more anxious about getting that done with each day that passed, so I feel amazingly relieved that I was able to complete it before the deadline this Thursday.

Basted Quilts

In the three days I spent waiting for the grommet die to arrive I assembled both Stepping Stones quilt tops. After taking grommet matters into my own hands, and finishing the bag, I got back to work on the quilts. I pieced the backings and basted both quilts. I will be quilting today!!

I plan to have both quilts completely quilted, squared up and bound by this weekend. I’m on a certain deadline that I’ll talk a little bit about next week, so I am very motivated to get these quilts done!

What are your plans this week?

This week’s To-Do list:

  • Quilt both quilts
  • Square and bind both quilts

To-Do Tuesday 4-19-16 | Plodding Along

I had high hopes for better progress this week. But, as we all know, life happens and I didn’t get as much done as expected.

Pink Stepping Stones Blocks

Pink Stepping Stones Blocks

On Monday I finished sewing and pressing the blocks for the pink Stepping Stones quilt. I have to trim them up by tomorrow to finish by the weekly QAL deadline.

I didn’t get far with my batik Stepping Stones blocks. I sewed about five of them and then it was time to prepare dinner. I hope to get those sewn, pressed, and trimmed today, just in time to post finished pictures for the weekly QAL assignment.

Fabrics for a new bag project

Fabrics for a new bag project

I finally finished the Tudor Bag I was working on, and I will post pictures of that in a Finished Friday post. I wanted to have the bag mailed to my Mom by Thursday, but ended up mailing it on Monday. I also have a new bag project to start this week, since I’m testing a bag pattern for my favorite bag designer, Sew Sweetness. I won’t be able to show pictures until the pattern is released. I am not exactly sure when that will be, but I will share them as soon as I can. In the meantime, I can share a picture of my fabrics for the new bag!

This week’s To-Do list:

  • Finish last week’s Stepping Stones QAL assignment of sewing the blocks and complete this week’s assignment to assemble the quilt tops.
  • Write Pattern Hack Post
  • Begin testing a new bag pattern

To-Do Tuesday 1-19-16 | Still Quilting on Grungy Windows

Happy Tuesday! Another week has come and gone, and there was progress made in the ticking away of time. Love that!

More quilting progress on Grungy Windows

More quilting progress on Grungy Windows

Grungy Windows isn’t completely quilted yet. It is taking a bit longer than I expected. Some of that is due to other things coming up last week that kept me from getting into the hobby room. Another reason is each block being quilted in a different pattern. I’ve just finished block 31, and have 11 more to go. The last few blocks have taken me a bit of time to think of a different pattern, draw it out, and then get it quilted. It’s still fun for me though, and that is what is important!

Thimble Pleasures - Sewing Machines by Dan Morris for Quilting Treasures

Thimble Pleasures – Sewing Machines by Dan Morris for Quilting Treasures

I had some yummy fabric surprises last week. The Mister saw what he thought was fabric I might like and ordered me some yardage. I love what he found! He bought a yard each of Thimble Pleasures – Sewing Machines by Dan Morris for Quilting Treasures in Black and Cream. This fabric is so great and I am planning on making bags with them. The turquoise really pops (more so in real life than in the pictures).

The Mister also found some fantastic motorcycle fabric. This print is Vintage Motorcycle News by Timeless Treasures. He liked it so much that he bought two yards! He did great with his fabric picks. He’s a keeper, for sure. Perhaps his success will lead him to want to find more fabric… He DOES have good taste. [The Mister may read my blog. He’s also pretty smart, so I think he might just pick up my very subtle hint.]

Bag of the Month Club Option 1

Bag of the Month Club Option 1

I took a little bit of time to see if I could decide on fabrics for the Bag of the Month Club bag for January. I’m not sure that I will go with either the above or below pictured fabrics for the January Bag. I will say that there is definitely going to be a Walking Dead bag with the red sparkle vinyl at some point in the future, even if it’s not this particular pattern. I also really like the idea of the black and white prints with red as an accent fabric. I think the red sparkle vinyl with the Vintage Motorcycle News print might work together well. What do you think? Sparkle red with that print, or maybe a matte red?

How are your January plans coming along? Any new crafty finishes?
I’d love to hear about them!

This week’s To-Do list:

  • Finish quilting Grungy Windows
  • Add binding to the front of the quilt, start hand stitching it to the back
  • Make January Bag of the Bag of the Month Club
