To-Do Tuesday 8-23-16 | Quilt Basting

Basted Churn Dash Quilt | Sweetwater Feed Co fabric line

This past week I accomplished most of the things on my To-Do list. I made the backing for my Churn Dash quilt, and basted the quilt together. It was a sluggish week for me work-wise though. I felt like I lost my sewing mojo and creative oomph halfway through the week. Not sure why or where it went, but I’m hoping to run into it again soon.

My Favorite Free Motion Quilting Books

Monday was an especially off-day. I felt like I was coming down with something and did nothing for the day. I intended to come up with a quilt plan for the Churn Dash quilt, but nothing is coming to mind. I pulled out some of my quilting books and went through them looking for ideas and inspiration. I sketched out the quilt, and started doodling over it hoping something creative would happen… but no. I was hoping for some specific quilting design plan, rather than an all-over design, but I may end up trying to learn a new all-over design other than all the swirls I have done recently.

Do you have any quilting suggestions? If so, I’d love to hear them!

This week’s To-Do list:

  • Find my MIA Sewjo
  • Come up with a Quilting Plan
  • Quilt and Bind the churn dash quilt

Finished or Not Friday | Churn Dash WIP

I am linking up for the first time with Busy Hands Quilts Finished {or Not} Friday. And this week I’m in the {or Not} category.

MSQC Churn Dash Pattern | WIP | Sweetwater Feed Co Fabric

I finished all of my Churn Dash blocks, decided on block placement, and started sewing the rows. I am not thrilled with the red fabric I chose to snowball the corners with. I am wishing now I would have chosen a darker red out of the bundle, but it’s done now. I may use a darker red thread in those diamond shapes when I quilt to give it some extra Oomph. The bottom two rows are finished and sewn together, with a third row finished and ready to be sewn to the bottom two. I usually sew from the bottom up because, as you can see, my “design wall” (batting hanging from the raw wooden shelving unit) isn’t very tall. I have to get those bottom blocks off the floor asap! I hope to have this top finished by later today or early Saturday afternoon.

To-Do Tuesday 8-9-16 | Back to Quilting

This week past week had a lot of crazy in it, a lot of “are you kidding me?!” in it, some school shopping for the kids, and belated birthday shopping for my youngest daughter. It was quite a mix of busy-ness, stress, and some fun. Most importantly, it had sewing in it!

Churn Dash Blocks

I was thrilled to work on the Churn Dash blocks I started sewing over the summer. I finished all 42 blocks, and then started snowballing the corners on Sunday. On Monday I finished sewing the 2.5″ squares on the corners, trimmed the seams to 1/4″ and started pressing them. Half of the blocks are completely finished and the other half still needs to be pressed. This coming week I’ll finish up the blocks, decide on a layout, and assemble them into a finished top. I hope to get the backing sewn as well, but I am not adding it to my list. If that gets finished it will be a bonus!

MSQC haul

I had another happy mail day this week and received another order from the Missouri Star Quilt Company. They had a daily special on their new thread they debuted, and I decided to pick some up to try out. Somehow my cart also ended up with the Winter 2016 issue of BLOCK Magazine, a jelly roll of Volume II Mama Said Sew (to go with my charm pack I got last week), a layer cake of First Crush by Sweetwater, and an Amanda Herring Desert Bloom 10″ stacker. I have no idea why the fabric fairy keeps adding these things to my online cart, but she seems to know that they’ll make great quilts for the Oregon House!

How was your week? Do you have any summer projects you’re working on?

To-Do Tuesday 6-7-16 | Georgia Girl Quilts

This week’s To-Do Tuesday is being hosted by Sarah of Georgia Girl Quilts. Make sure you head over to THIS post and link up your To-Do Tuesday post. After you link up, take some time to look around Sarah’s blog to get to know a little more about her and check out some of her amazing work. She’s been a quilting machine, whipping up a bunch of gorgeous quilts on a time crunch (isn’t that the way we quilters always do?!). She has two recent finishes that blew me away; her Tango, #5 quilt as part of the Art with Fabric blog hop and her Reminds me of Picasso quilt for the Traditional Craft : Modern Perspective quilt show. I’d highly recommend taking a moment to check out those quilts!

Sewing Station

As for my week, I was able to make the hours pass by until we took possession of our new-to-us house by starting on my Churn Dash quilt. I wasn’t really planning to work on that, but figured why not?! Which means I actually have a few pictures this week. My machine is too heavy for our dinette, and I foolishly decided I didn’t need to bring my Featherweight on this trip. I made do by putting Ellie up on the counter and had just enough room to get sewing.

336 5 inch squares

If you follow me on Instagram, you know I’ve been busy messing around with 336 5″ squares that I turned into 336 block units. I’ve assembled 13 of 42 churn dash blocks. I think my sewing has stopped for the moment though.

Churn Dash Blocks

We got the keys to the house Sunday night, and we spent Monday at the house starting to get things ready. Mister and our brother-in-law wired up a 30 amp electrical box to hook up the motorhome when we bring that over on Tuesday morning. We brought some kitchen and household items that were duplicates from Havasu, and also picked up some furniture that was Brad’s mom and was put into storage for us to use while we get the house set up. We’re not moving from one house to another house, so we have some furniture hunting and many bazillion things to buy for the house.

This week’s To-Do list:

  • Work on the house!
