To Do Tuesday 8-22-17 | Bag Orders & Mystery Halloween Town

Hello, friends! We’ve been running on full speed over here. I feel like I’m barely catching my breath before the next busy day comes along. But progress is being made on my to-do list, and that makes me happy!

Along with my To-Do list, we’ve been busy with the kids and their life-plans. My son wants to join the Navy when he graduates in May, so we’ve been talking to recruiters and getting him ready for the process and early sign-up. He may be disqualified for any military service due to his astigmatism, so we’d like to find out as soon as possible if that is to be the case. That way he can start planning for college rather than the military. I also attended college orientation for my daughter who is a Junior in high school. She will be taking the Certified Nursing Course concurrently with high school. So, some busy life stuff with the kids this week!

I completed one order of custom sized project bags. These fabrics were a lot of fun to make bags with!

I just finished the second order on Monday. I haven’t reached my efficient sewing levels yet, as these bags seem to be taking me longer than usual to make. I will get back into the groove soon, I’m sure, it’s just taking time with some of the various appointments mixed in.

Stitch ALL The Things | Ships Manor Mystery Halloween Town Progress

I’ve been making a small bit of progress on my Ship’s Manor Mystery Halloween Town SAL. There are only two clues left to be released, so I am trying to catch up by the next release date on September 7th.

This week I have an order for three bag sets to make, and then I will start on my large shop order which will take about two and a half to three weeks. I better find my efficient sewing skills soon!

This week’s To-Do list:

  • Complete three bag set order.
  • Begin shop order.

To-Do Tuesday 10-4-16 | Quilting the Alpine Quilt

Happy October! I am so excited that Fall is here! We actually don’t experience too much of a “Fall” season here. No trees full of leaves turning gorgeous shades of red, orange and yellow before falling. No crisp autumn air where you can see your breath in the morning. Nope. It’s pretty much just a warm month. But this year we’re about 10 degrees cooler than usual, and so the beginning of October feels more like the end of October and I am taking that wonderful feeling of it’s-cooling-down-now weather and enjoying the heck out of it! How about you? How is the weather where you are?

Stitch ALL The Things | Flying Geese Diamonds quilting

As far as my to-do list goes, I did finish quilting the Flying Geese Diamond quilt and managed to get the binding sewn onto the front only an hour before writing this. I had a lot of trouble quilting this one.

Stitch ALL The Things | Flying Geese Diamond Block

A lot of the quilting problems seemed to come from a combination of things. The different thicknesses on the quilt from the blocks was a big issues. The weight of the quilt was another. The strain of moving the quilt would pull on the needle and that resulted in a lot of thread shredding. It took me all week to get this quilt finished simply because of my frustration with the constant breakage.

Stitch ALL The Things | Juki TL2200 QVP foot

After quilting one half of the quilt, I decided to check and see if I could raise my foot a little higher to accommodate the various fabric thicknesses. This foot needs the space of the thickness of a credit card in between the foot and the quilt sandwich. I was surprised to find that I had an extra 1/16th to lift my foot up and that made all the difference in the world! I still had a couple of shredded thread breakages, but nothing like when I quilted the first half of the quilt.

Stitch ALL The Things | Alpine Fabric Red Stripe Binding

I had to take a picture of this binding. It is absolutely, amazingly, spectacularly, and wonderfully perfect for this quilt! For ANY Christmas themed quilt, actually. I am so in love with this binding that it made all of the quilting struggles melt away.

Stitch ALL The Things | Halloween Town Stitching

In other stitchy news, I completed the Halloween Town cross stitch pattern. I will make this into a throw pillow as soon as I’m done with the Christmas quilt. I also started working on my Wacky Witches in Stitches WIP again. This is going to be really cute when it’s finished!

This week I will be focused on stitching down the binding on the Flying Geese Diamonds quilt. I also have to come up with a name for it. The Mister is leaving this coming Saturday to go to the Oregon house, so I also want to get the Christmas placemats, napkins, and coasters done this week and send those up with him.

What is on your list this week? Do you have any Fall sewing or Holiday sewing in your plans?

This week’s To-Do list:

  • Finish Binding Flying Geese Diamonds Quilt
  • Make Placemats, Napkins & Coasters
  • Continue working on Wacky Witches WIP

To-Do Tuesday 9-27-16 | Stitching ALL The Things

Happy Tuesday, my friends! It’s time to do our weekly check up on our to-do lists. This past week I rocked my list! I made the two replacement blocks needed for the Flying Geese Diamonds quilt, sewed the quilt top together, made the quilt backing, and basted it all together. BOOM! So happy to have accomplished all of that! Now I’m all set to get to quilting. Although I noticed when taking this picture that my quilting gloves are filthy. Time to put those babies on, squirt some Dawn dish washing liquid on them, and wash my “hands”. That’s the best way I know to get these gloves nice and clean!

Part of the “ALL” in ‘Stitching ALL The Things’ happen to be cross stitching projects. I was really into cross stitching about two years ago. I was working on a couple of Halloween Stitch-Alongs, and ended up putting both aside at the same time. The first was Halloween Town by The Frosted Pumpkin Stitchery. It started as a mystery Stitch-Along and I loved it until they released the third clue… Which happened to be a bakery. And almost the whole cross-stitchy community on Instagram went, “What the…??!!” I modified the third clue and created a cemetary instead. Then they released the fourth clue, the banner, and I was so underwhelmed by that time that I just stopped stitching. ALL of my cross stitching. Over the weekend I decided to find this WIP and get it finished. It’ll be done in time for Halloween… and only two years late! The other stitching project was Wacky Witches in Stitches by Clouds Factory. I absolutely loved that stitch-along, and I stopped because I messed up on the border. Not a bad mess-up, but enough to set it aside and “fix it later”. Later is now. As soon as I get Halloween Town finished, I will be getting back to work on Wacky Witches.
