To Do Tuesday 8-22-17 | Bag Orders & Mystery Halloween Town

Hello, friends! We’ve been running on full speed over here. I feel like I’m barely catching my breath before the next busy day comes along. But progress is being made on my to-do list, and that makes me happy!

Along with my To-Do list, we’ve been busy with the kids and their life-plans. My son wants to join the Navy when he graduates in May, so we’ve been talking to recruiters and getting him ready for the process and early sign-up. He may be disqualified for any military service due to his astigmatism, so we’d like to find out as soon as possible if that is to be the case. That way he can start planning for college rather than the military. I also attended college orientation for my daughter who is a Junior in high school. She will be taking the Certified Nursing Course concurrently with high school. So, some busy life stuff with the kids this week!

I completed one order of custom sized project bags. These fabrics were a lot of fun to make bags with!

I just finished the second order on Monday. I haven’t reached my efficient sewing levels yet, as these bags seem to be taking me longer than usual to make. I will get back into the groove soon, I’m sure, it’s just taking time with some of the various appointments mixed in.

Stitch ALL The Things | Ships Manor Mystery Halloween Town Progress

I’ve been making a small bit of progress on my Ship’s Manor Mystery Halloween Town SAL. There are only two clues left to be released, so I am trying to catch up by the next release date on September 7th.

This week I have an order for three bag sets to make, and then I will start on my large shop order which will take about two and a half to three weeks. I better find my efficient sewing skills soon!

This week’s To-Do list:

  • Complete three bag set order.
  • Begin shop order.

To-Do Tuesday 5-16-17 | An Abundance of Project Bags

Hello, my friends! What a busy week it has been! On Thursday I finished the large commissioned bag order. It turned out that three of the bags weren’t the best fit for that order, so I made three more over this weekend. I think they all turned out really nicely!

Accessory Project Bags:

Large Project Bags:

If you’d like to purchase any of the above bags (with the exception of Poetica, Chipper, and Astraea which have already been sold), they will be listed at Down Sunshine Lane in about a week and a half!

I finally made a page HERE to show all of my Project Bags. I was going to put an order request form on that same page, but I won’t be taking orders for the next 11 weeks. When we get back from summer vacation, I’ll add it then.

I decided to take one last bag order before we leave for vacation. I’ll be making that this week, and hopefully finished by Thursday. After that I’ll be doing the usual scrubbing down of the house and getting the kids and us packed up for our respective destinations. This has been such a busy year so far, filled with making so many bags. I’m looking forward to a bit of a sewing break. When we return, I’ll have at least two more commissions to do, one large and a smaller one. After they’re finished I hope to get back to having extra time to make some quilts. Maybe I’ll actually get the Mister’s quilt finished and make the Bargello quilt for Josh by Christmas!

This week’s To-Do list:

  • Finish bag order
  • Prep house for summer vacation

To-Do Tuesday 4-18-17 | Finishes!

Hello, my friends! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and a very Happy Easter. I was so busy finishing up the large bag order, and then resting over the weekend, that I completely forgot to read your blogs from the last link up. I just realized it tonight when I noticed I had not even responded to comments on my blog from last week. Gulp! I hope to catch up on blog reading soon, and I apologize for not visiting you all last week.

Stitch ALL The Things | Large Zippered Bags

I finally finished the 25 bag order on Thursday night. I was so excited! I spent Friday taking pictures of the bags, emailing the shop owner who commissioned them, and packaging them up. These are 15 of the 25 requested. I forgot to measure them exactly, but they are about 10″ high x 13″ wide, by 3″ deep at the base.

I had to share the coffee bag though. I wish the picture showed the chocolate glitter vinyl better. It’s so rich and just gorgeous.

Stitch ALL The Things | Coffee Bean Fabric

But the best part is the interior! Those coffee beans are scrumptious! The interior is actually a bit darker than this, the only photo I took of it was really over exposed. The interior of all of the large bags has a long slip pocket that’s divided into three. The outside of the pocket is the same fabric as the bag interior, but for all of the bags I used a coordinating solid to create a faux binding on the pocket and to define where the pocket was in the bag.

Stitch ALL The Things | Small Zippered Bags

The other 10 bags were these small zippered pouches. They measure approximately 7″ high x 9″ wide, by 1″ deep.

Stitch ALL The Things | Lowery Cross Stitch Stand

I had some very exciting mail arrive today. The Mister ordered me a Lowery workstand from Sew and So in the UK. We ordered it on the 4th of April, it shipped on the 5th, and arrived on the 17th! Super quick for a really large international package. I was blown away! I also absolutely love it. I happened to check pricing one day and it was on sale. I also was able to use their first time customer code to get 10% off, which essentially was the same as the shipping charge. All told, it cost $88 USD! I. Am. Thrilled! The picture above is to show the stand. The picture below is my actual, very messy, stitchy spot… Right next to the Mister!

This week I have to complete four project bag & tool pouch sets. I ended up asking my customer if I could push off her bags to this week. I really needed a break, and I had forgotten it was Easter weekend. Thankfully, she was very understanding, and I had a chance to relax and feel a bit refreshed before starting her bags. I also am preparing for the other large commission order that is highly likely to head my way before summer break. I will be scheduling that order so that I have weekends off. This way I won’t fear any burn out, and I’ll be available to run errands or hang out with the Mister and the kids. I may even have time to quilt the Mister’s quilt and bind it on one of the weekends, so he can finally enjoy his quilt! Now that summer’s right around the corner (for those of us in AZ, anyway), my timing is perfect!

This week’s To-Do list:

  • Commission for four Project Bag sets

Finished Friday | A Tudor Bag for Mom

Tudor Bag Front

Recently my mom asked if I would make her a Tudor Bag from fabric she already had. Of course I said yes! I made this same bag for myself when I tested the pattern for Sara of Sew Sweetness in November of 2014. I’ve used it as my main purse ever since. (Although now I’m switching it up with the two Polaris Bags I made last month!) The Tudor Bag is so roomy and has lots of pockets; It’s the perfect bag for me.

Big Roomy pockets for large sheet music!

Big Roomy pockets for large sheet music!

Mom and I decided to make a few changes to the bag. She needed a bag to hold her sheet music while going to rehearsals with the Mariposa Symphony Orchestra. Her sheet music is large, so she needed the bag taller than the pattern called for. I increased the height of the bag from 12-1/2″ tall to 15″ tall. Mom also wanted to omit the zippered top in case some of her sheet music was longer than 15″. Mom wants to use the interior pockets to divide her various music pieces, so I did not sew a dividing line on either pocket to make two slip pockets on each side; Instead there is one large pocket on each side of the interior. Since that effectively reduced her four interior pockets to only two pockets, I added an interior zippered pocket.

Key

Another addition to the bag was a Key Holder. Mom said she likes having a place to hook her keys just inside her bag, so I made sure to put one in there for her. It was my first time making anything like that, and I think it turned out nice!

I purchased some black sparkle vinyl from Fabric.com about 6 months ago, and I decided to use it for the accent fabric. That also required a modification to the bag handles because I did not want to piece the vinyl to make one long strap for each side. I like the way the handles look with the rectangular rings.

All of these pattern modifications were fun! I’ve submitted them as a Pattern Hack to Sara of Sew Sweetness since she accepted my request to be part of her Pattern Hack Posse. We’ll see if she accepts the pattern hacks and posts them!
