To Do Tuesday 6-6-17 | The Finish That Wasn’t

Hello, friends! The Mister just kindly reminded me that it was Monday evening and asked if I had written my blog post for Tuesday. Um…Nope! Time always seems to go by so quickly when we are here, and I lose track of the days without having the kids’ schedule to follow. At least he was paying attention, so I won’t be scrambling in the morning to get something written and posted. Thank you, Mister!

Stitch ALL The Things | I Cross Stitch

While we were traveling to Oregon I spent the time in the car working on my I Cross Stitch So I Don’t Kill People WIP. I wasn’t quite finished by the time we made it to Salem, but was having such fun that I decided to spend a few extra nights working on it so I could have a finish. I happened to pack another kitted chart for travel in case I made good progress on this one, so I didn’t feel bad about pushing to a finish. On the last evening of working on this, I was so close to being done when I realized that the entire right hand side was off by one stitch to the right, and one stitch too high. I started the top corner round motif wrong, so the rest was off too.

I was so mad that I just put all of my stitching away for two days. I finally quit pouting, grabbed my embroidery scissors and started snipping all of the little X’s. Yes, I used scissors despite the rule of “take out your stitching using the same tool with which you stitched it”. I was careful with the scissors and, quite frankly, too irritated at having to rip everything out to be bothered with patiently and gently pulling all of the threads back out with my needle. After having cleaned up the fabric from loose threads and fluff, I folded it and put it away. At this point I have at least two days worth of stitching left on it, and that will fill my travel days back home at the end of summer.

Stitch ALL The Things | Ships Manor Mystery Halloween Town SAL

After putting away I Cross Stitch, I pulled out my Ship’s Manor Halloween Mystery Town Stitch Along (SAL). Parts 1 and 2 had been released, and I have been working on this one trying to catch up before part 3 releases on the 7th. I was hoping to get the house finished before writing this post, but my fingers weren’t nimble enough to accomplish that. I am still happy that I’ve got maybe an hour’s worth of stitching left and then this will be ready for Part 3. I don’t think I’ll start the third part right away though, as I have been itching to get back to work on Sleepy Hollow. I’ve just got the border and the quote left to do on that one, but it’s going to take some time since the border is quite detailed and has beading on it as well.

That’s it for my stitching this week. As far as the house goes, I’ve been chasing Daddy Long Legs down, and we’ve been cleaning up the flower beds here and trimming up the raspberry bushes. This week I’ll be digging out the ridiculous Calla Lillies (that I can NOT stand AT ALL) in the hopes that eventually, someday, maybe, they’ll go away. I hope you are all enjoying the beginning of summer time! I can’t wait to read what ya’ll have been up to!

This week’s To-Do list:

  • Catch up on Ship’s Manor SAL
  • Dig up the Calla Lillies

To-Do Tuesday 1-31-17 | Cross Stitching Update

Hello, friends! Happy Tuesday! I am actually going to talk about something other than Project Bags. What??!!! Well, kind of. I did end up completing 9 bags, as you can see in the Gallery below. Big thanks to Amy and Dyani for their orders! The one thing I will say about the bags is that I plan on setting up a page for just Project Bag pictures. Since this is becoming a real thing, I need to have images of them all in one place to refer potential customers to. One of these days I will catch up and have some bags in stock to sell!

My evenings have been spent cross stitching. It has really helped me relax after some super busy days. A few weeks ago I said I would talk about my current WIPs, but didn’t really get around to it. I thought this week’s post would be a good time to write about them, since all of my recent posts have been centered around the Project bags and I think ya’ll would enjoy me talking about something different.

The Burlesque Zombie Portrait from the book Twisted Stitches is my oldest WIP. I started this in 2014 and stopped stitching on it for about a year, picking it up in October of 2016. This is my progress from October of 2016 to January 13, 2017. I work on her the first two weeks of the month, Monday (if I have time after blog writing) through Friday.

I did get the Glendon Place Sleepy Hollow chart, fabric, and specialty threads for Christmas. Yay! I had most of the rest of the DMC floss in my stash. I work on this chart the third week of the month, Monday through Friday. I got so excited working on this chart that I actually bumped my weekend WIP and stitched on this for one weekend instead. Super love this one!

Stitch ALL The Things | Ship's Manor Mystery Town SAL

The fourth week of the month is spent working on the new Ship’s Manor Mystery Town Stitch Along. The first month’s release was the landscape for the mystery town. I am trying to get the landscape around the first building done so that when that is released I can start right in with stitching it. Which means I bumped my weekend WIP for a second time! I am planning on spending the rest of Monday night and Tuesday night stitching it so that I can be ready for the next installment.

My weekend WIP, that I’ve bumped for two weekends in a row, is I Love You So Very Much by Stitchrovia. I really do want to get this one finished, but it does seem the easiest to bump from my rotation.

Care Taker is my BAP (Big Ass Project) that I work on the 5th of every month. This is a very large chart and this is my progress from January 5th. It doesn’t seem like much, but that’s about three hours of work. And I have to frog it all and restart it. It wasn’t until today when I went to take a picture of it that I realized I started on the long side of the fabric, rather than the short side. UGH! So part of my day on February 5th will be be taking all of those out and redoing them. I am so looking forward to that. Not.

Finally, my last WIP is I Cross Stitch by Clouds Factory. I only work on this one when we travel. It’s a lot easier for me to stitch on white aida when I’m in the car and I don’t need my magnifier LED light for this one.
Stitch ALL The Things

Those are a lot of WIPs for me, but I am looking to see where I can add in Santa’s Village from Country Cottage Needleworks. I just got all of the patterns and the JABC buttons for it, and I have the fabric and specialty flosses coming from 123Stitch. I am so loving this one, and I can’t wait to start it! So much to stitch, so little time!

This week’s To-Do list:

  • Work on two Project Bag commissions
  • Create Project Bag page

To-Do Tuesday 11-8-16 | Stitchy Goodness

This week was an odd one. My bad headache turned out to be some strange illness that’s going around. I ended up having dull headaches all week and would get worn out and clammy with the slightest activity. I sort of felt like I was on the tail end of having the flu. So weird. I got tired of sitting around waiting to “feel better” so on Sunday I did a bit of minor sewing. I made two grime guards for my Q Snap frames. I also gridded up some black aida in preparation of stitching Let’s Sew designed by Ursula Michael for Imaginating. I got a small start on it Sunday evening.

Stitch ALL The Things | QSnaps Grime Guards Charts

I recently ran across a Flosstube video on youtube on gridding your cross stitch fabric that I loved. She uses Sulky Sliver (shown on white Aida in picture above) instead of thread and it really makes a huge difference when pulling out the gridding threads. The Sliver is a flat metallic type tape that you can’t sew through. When I used thread on Whacky Witches I kept stitching through my gridding threads and that was a nightmare to remove. Her technique of gridding also gets it done so much quicker. I am using this method from now on! I am gridding some white aida to have ready for my I Cross Stitch Quote chart.

Stitch ALL The Things | Burlesque Zombie Portrait

The Burlesque Zombie Portrait is my current cross stitching UFO. I didn’t get very much stitching time in on it this week. There is A LOT of confetti in the frame part of the chart, and it makes for slow stitching. I can tell this is going to be a longer term WIP than I anticipated. It’s on a scroll floor frame, so it’s not portable. We have two long travel days coming up, so the Let’s Sew and I Cross Stitch projects will be great to work on in the car. Having three WIPs will also give me a nice rotation and enough of a break from the Burlesque Zombie that I won’t get too tired of it.

In other sewing news, on Monday I was able to finish the bag I was working on. I am saving pictures for a Finished Friday post. This week I need to work on another bag, and I’d like to make a pillow out of my Halloween Town cross stitch finish from a couple months ago.

This week’s To-Do list:

  • Start new bag
  • Work on Burlesque Zombie Portrait cross stitch WIP
  • Make Pillow

To-Do Tuesday 9-27-16 | Stitching ALL The Things

Happy Tuesday, my friends! It’s time to do our weekly check up on our to-do lists. This past week I rocked my list! I made the two replacement blocks needed for the Flying Geese Diamonds quilt, sewed the quilt top together, made the quilt backing, and basted it all together. BOOM! So happy to have accomplished all of that! Now I’m all set to get to quilting. Although I noticed when taking this picture that my quilting gloves are filthy. Time to put those babies on, squirt some Dawn dish washing liquid on them, and wash my “hands”. That’s the best way I know to get these gloves nice and clean!

Part of the “ALL” in ‘Stitching ALL The Things’ happen to be cross stitching projects. I was really into cross stitching about two years ago. I was working on a couple of Halloween Stitch-Alongs, and ended up putting both aside at the same time. The first was Halloween Town by The Frosted Pumpkin Stitchery. It started as a mystery Stitch-Along and I loved it until they released the third clue… Which happened to be a bakery. And almost the whole cross-stitchy community on Instagram went, “What the…??!!” I modified the third clue and created a cemetary instead. Then they released the fourth clue, the banner, and I was so underwhelmed by that time that I just stopped stitching. ALL of my cross stitching. Over the weekend I decided to find this WIP and get it finished. It’ll be done in time for Halloween… and only two years late! The other stitching project was Wacky Witches in Stitches by Clouds Factory. I absolutely loved that stitch-along, and I stopped because I messed up on the border. Not a bad mess-up, but enough to set it aside and “fix it later”. Later is now. As soon as I get Halloween Town finished, I will be getting back to work on Wacky Witches.

Halloween Town Cross Stitching WIP

This week’s To-Do list:

  • Quilt Flying Geese Diamonds Quilt
  • Bind Quilt
  • Finish Halloween Town cross stitching WIP
  • Get back to work on Wacky Witches cross stitching
