To-Do Tuesday | 2014 Wrap up | 2015 Sewing Plans

I didn’t mean to stop doing To-Do Tuesdays, much less go almost an entire month without blogging, but the holiday craziness and the new job just got the best of me.

My 2014 was fairly productive. Not as many quilts made as I had planned, but I did do a variety of projects.

Quilts:

The Vintage Quilt Revival top has only been pieced, not quilted yet. The MQG Southwest Individual Charity Quilt top blocks were created by members of our bee, I only sewed the blocks together into a quilt top.

Other Projects:

As I was going through my pictures I realized why I didn’t finish as many quilts as I intended. I was busy sewing other things! I made a set of Leaf hot pads, 10 Sew Together Bags (2 not shown), 6 boxy pouches (1 not shown), 2 purses, a stitched anniversary present for Mister, and a napkin and placemat set. In retrospect, I’m rather happy with my 2014 stitching!

My plans for 2015 are fairly simple. Absolutely no Block-Of-The-Months or Quilt-Alongs no matter how tempting they are to join. I have two BOM’s for 2014 that I still need to finish. I also have 4 quilts I must make; two for my nephews and two for my own children. Yep, it’s true that two of my three kids do not have quilts yet. I must rectify that this year!

I also participated in the Modern InstaBee 2014 last year, and I need to put together my blocks and make that into a quilt. I’d like to get my Vintage Quilt Revival quilted this year too.

I will be continuing to work on my F Word Quilt blocks along with Sarah of Georgia Girl Quilts. As I have time I want to finish my 2014 Sugar Block Club quilt and my 2014 Skill Builder quilt.

My other plan for this year is to join up with Leasa over at Project: Leasa for #SewMyStash2015. I have several fabric collections that I haven’t cut into yet (Hello Indelible!!) and I’d like to make something with them before I become a fabric collector.

That covers my 2014 wrap-up as well as my plans for 2015. As far as To-Do Tuesday goes, I’m currently working on my second Moxie quilt. The top was finished two days ago and I just finished piecing the back today. I work Tuesday through THursday this week, which means no sewing for me until Friday. Then I’ll have five days to get the quilt basted, quilted, bound and washed. I must ship this by the 13th so it will get to my niece in time for her birthday. So that is going to be my sole focus this week!

This week’s To-Do list:

  • Finish Moxie Quilt
  • Write To-Do Tuesday post ahead of time
  • Start South Beach Diet and stick with it! Get Healthy!!

To Do Tuesday 12-8-14 | Christmas Sewing

How is your holiday season coming along? It’s been a whirl wind over here, and I have managed to get all of my Sew Together Bags finished! Yippee! If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen my two-completed-bags-per-day pictures over the weekend. What a relief to have them all finished!

The bags finally finished! YAY!!!

The bags are finally finished! YAY!!!

Today I pulled fabric for 6 Boxy Pouches I’ll be making for the boys in the family. I’m using THIS tutorial by Pink Stitches. I didn’t obsess too much over the fabric pulls as I don’t have a lot of time to fuss. And since the male species isn’t as particular as the girl species about how things look, I am fairly confident my fabric pulls will be fine. I also had time to starch, press and cut out all the fabric pieces needed as well as iron the interfacing to the interior panels. I cut out all the batting for the exterior pieces and quilted the panels of two bags. I work the next two days, but I’m hopeful that all of the bags will be finished no later than Saturday.

I also have one other Christmas present to sew, and then some quick holiday goodies to make. This year I don’t have time to bake goodies to send with our packages, so I’m going to just make some chocolate peanut clusters. It’s quick and easy enough and I think it tastes pretty amazing. I’m all about quick and easy this year, since I’m running out of time!
How about you? How is your holiday preparation coming along?

>This week’s To-Do list:

  • Sew secret gift
  • Finish Boxy Pouches using Pink Stitches Tutorial.
  • Make Chocolate Clusters
  • Wrap and package gifts to mail
  • Mister to mail gifts by Monday

To-Do Tuesday 12-2-14

I’m late! I’m late! For a very important date! No time to say hello, goodbye! I’m late! I’m late! I’m late!

Here I am, just sitting in my kitchen drinking a nice hot cup of coffee (black, of course), when I look at the Mister and ask… “Is today Tuesday?” His reply, “Yup.” Mine? “OH CRAP! I forgot to write my post!!” *sigh* This past week just flew by!

My week pretty much consisted of Thanksgiving prep and cooking and eating and cleaning (and there has been much consumption of leftovers), throwing up the Christmas decorations, and working on the MQG Quilt Con Charity quilt. As an Individual Member, they put us into geographical Bees so we could participate in making a quilt for Quilt Con. I’m in the Southwest group. After QC is over the quilt will be donated to a children’s charity in Austin, TX. We used Anna Maria Horner’s Feather Quilt pattern (with her permission), but we arranged the blocks differently. So I spent the weekend pressing and trimming blocks and then sewing them into a quilt top.

The picture is pretty bad, as Mister was given strict instructions to “PLEASE don’t let the quilt touch the ground. It’s white. And it won’t be washed before going to Quilt Con.” Although he is 6’1″ tall, it was still a pretty impossible instruction to follow what with me not bringing a foot stool for him to stand on and having the quilt be over 80″ long. So, yes, there was some kissing of the quilt to the concrete. He had to tuck himself into our porch area because it was so windy and I also happened to not be in the right spot and backed up to a short wall, so the entire quilt is not in the picture. I didn’t have the heart to ask for more, since his arms were killing him trying to hold the quilt up so high. Oops!

The quilt is on its way to a quilter in our group and hopefully when it’s done we’ll get a better picture!

Now this week I have to get back on track with Christmas sewing. I also have a quilt due to my niece the beginning of January for her birthday, so I’m starting to stress. I really wanted to avoid the frantic sewing this year, but managed to do the same thing as I always do… commit to more projects than I can manage and then speed sew my way through Christmas. I’m sure I’m the ONLY one who does that, right?!

Okay, enough typing I have Christmas sewing to get to!

This week’s To-Do list:

  • Finish Sew Together Bags 12/7
  • Sew another secret gift (No specifics; that person probably reads my blog!)
  • Make 4 or 5 Boxy pouches. Might need 7. Need 6. Cut out all pieces needed and interfaced linings. Quilted exterior panels of two bags.

Now it’s your turn! Write up your post and link up using the InLinkz linky below.

To-Do Tuesday | Thanksgiving week

How was your week? Did you meet any of your goals?

I was able to complete two more Sew Together Bags for Christmas presents. That’s a total of four finished bags and I have six left to sew. I’m getting closer!

I am loving that red stitching!

I love this bag!

I posted my secret sewing yesterday, the Tudor Bag that I pattern tested for Sara of Sew Sweetness. I can not seem to stop telling everyone how much I love this bag. Including you. I LOVE THIS BAG.

I received all the blocks that the Southwest Individual bee made for the MQG Charity quilt. We are finalizing our decision on the layout and I’m hoping to start assembling the top on Friday. Monday, December 1st is still my planned mailing date.

Before getting on with the list, I wish everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving week!

This week’s To-Do list:

  • Assemble MQG Charity Quilt Top 11/30
  • Enjoy Thanksgiving with my family! (Note to self: Don’t burn the pie crust!!!) SUCCESS!
  • Mail MQG Top by Monday, Dec. 1st. Mailed 12/1

Now it’s your turn! Write up your post and link up using the InLinkz linky below.
