To-Do Tuesday 11-14-17

Happy Tuesday, friends! Another week has passed and we’re checking our lists from last week and preparing new lists for this week. On my list last week was pressing the backing, batting, and quilt top; basting, quilting, and binding it. I also had working on my Merry Xmas cross stitching progress. Let’s see how I did…

Stitch ALL The Things | Sturgis Quilting Progress

Well, I pressed all the parts of the quilt sandwich, I basted it, and I quilted the big squares of the motorcycle print. I went with a sort of maltese cross design, but it didn’t turn out very well. I looked up the last time I free-motion quilted and it was my Christmas quilt from last year… that I finished in September of 2016. So it has been 14 months since I last did free-motion quilting. To say I am rusty and need to re-learn to keep my foot pedal speed equal with my pushing the quilt around is an understatement. Of epic proportions. Thankfully the Mister is not expecting a perfect quilt and is happy with whatever comes of my reacquainting myself with my sit-down longarm machine. He told me it didn’t matter if the lines were straight enough, since I was going to wash it and it would shrink and get that scrunchy old quilt look I love anyway. Love that man! I still have filler quilting to do around the blocks, and I will work on that this coming week.

Stitch ALL The Things | Prairie Moon Merry Xmas Progress Day 9

As far as my cross stitching, I’ve made some decent progress on it that I am happy about. I’m not sure how much longer it will take me to finish this, but I think maybe a week and a half at the most. I’m loving the creepy Christmas feel this one has. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea, to be sure, but it’s definitely mine!

Speaking of Christmas, have you started your holiday crafting? Will you be making gifts this year or shopping for gifts? This year will be a combination of both for me. I am excited to see what you all have been working on!

This week’s To-Do list:

  • Finish quilting and bind the Sturgis quilt.
  • Keep working on Merry Xmas stitching

To-Do Tuesday 11-6-17 | Ready for Quilting

Hello, and Happy Tuesday, friends! It’s that time again where we see how we did last week with our goals, and plan what we want to accomplish for the week ahead. On last week’s list I had two tasks: filling the last of the bag orders and pulling fabrics for the Bargello quilt. Both of those tasks were checked off as complete!

The last of the bag orders were finished and mailed off this past week. I loved all of the fabrics I used to make these bags. I have always been fascinated by the Gorjuss girls and I loved the print used for the Gorjuss bag. I also made an Americana bag for one customer, and another customer asked for an Air Force bag (as her father served in the Air Force), and a fall themed bag. It’s easier to sew when you love the fabrics you sew with…and these were all great!

Stitch ALL The Things | Santa's Village Top Row Progress

As far as stitching goes, I finished Mrs. Claus’ Cookie Shop in the Santa’s Village series by Country Cottage Needleworks. The top row is finished, and I love it! I haven’t stitched the cookie button on it yet, and won’t until the entire series is stitched since this project is on a scroll frame. Four houses down, and eight to go!

After I finished the Cookie Shop, I wanted to start a chart I’ve had in my stash for just over a year. I am absolutely over the moon (pun intended!) with the Prairie Moon Crypt Club charts. I only became aware of these charts in the last year, so I missed out on getting them before they became Out Of Print and VERY hard to find. I was able to find three of them for not-quite outrageous prices (but very close to that), and now that the holiday season is coming up on us I decided to get the Merry XMas chart done before Christmas. I started stitching this on 32 count crystal Nocturne Lugana by Picture This Plus. I quickly remembered why I hate the crystal fabric from them… I can’t see the holes! I don’t know how they process the fabric to get the glitter, but it seems like whatever it does seals up the holes on the fabric. I found another 32 count evenweave by Fabric Flair in Smokey Blue that matches the flosses nicely and re-started stitching. I plan to work on this one until it’s finished. I have to note that the model in the picture of the chart shows the dress as being white, but the called for floss is pink. I was surprised at that, but I love the pink enough to keep it, rather than change it to a white. The fact that these flosses are Crescent Colors Belle Soie helped that decision. There was no way I was going to pay for another white floss to replace the pink I had already purchased for this chart!

Stitch ALL The Things | Sturgis Quilt Top

This week I will be working on the Sturgis quilt. I need to press it, get it basted, quilt it, and hopefully have it bound and finished by next Tuesday. I was meaning to take this weekend off resting and relaxing, but the Mister got his annual “we have too much crap and things must be cleaned and purged” feeling going on. There was no way I could sit on the couch spending the day stitching while he was working, so I decided to tackle the sewing room and clean, purge, and re-organize it. I had this on my list to do AFTER completing my holiday sewing, but now seemed as good as time as any. I worked all day on Sunday and Monday in the hobby room, and it looks so much better now. I also found that I had already pulled all of the fabrics for the Bargello quilt, they were sitting in a neat pile under a messy pile of fabric scraps. Oops. At least that task was quickly checked of my list! I really should have taken before and after pictures of the room, but it was a shameful mess and there’s no way I wanted anyone to see that! At least now I won’t be moving piles of stuff from one place to the next while I switch over to quilting. Everything now has a place, and is in its place. Oh the joy to be working in a clean and organized room!

This week’s To-Do list:

  • Press, Baste, Quilt, and Bind Sturgis quilt
  • Work on Merry Xmas stitching

To-Do Tuesday 8-15-17 | Blue RK Blocks

Happy Tuesday friends! A quick post this week since we’ve been so busy lately.
Stitch ALL The Things | Blue RK Blocks

Last week I talked about making Blue RK Blocks (using Heritage Threads’ tutorial found HERE)to send to Craftycop/Jessica on Instagram. These blocks are to be made into quilts for the families of police officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty. I mentioned last week that two quilts were, very sadly, already dedicated to two families. Unfortunately, I was wrong. There was a third officer (chronologically, the second officer) who was killed in the line of duty while on a domestic call. New York State Trooper Joel Davis. I was able to make some blocks this weekend and put them in the mail today to Jessica. Right now her goal is to get enough blocks to make 50 quilts to have on hand and ready for families. Her last count was at 1,235 blocks, just 25 blocks shy of 30 quilts. I hope we end up with enough blocks for 50 quilts, while at the same time that I hope those quilts stay on a shelf collecting dust. Tragically, that’s just not the world we live in. If you’d like to receive more information on this, direct message Jessica on Instagram.

Stitch ALL The Things | Project Bag Stitching Set

Christmas Village

Last week’s bag making wasn’t as productive as I hoped. I made and sent off a Christmas Village bag and Grime guard (I forgot to save a picture of it, but it’s pretty much the same as pictured above). I also cut everything out for three more bags. I’m running a bit behind, due to kid appointments and such, but hopefully can make up some time this week. I’ve got 8 bags to get sewn, we’ll see how well I do with that.

This week’s To-Do list:

  • Complete three bag orders.

To-Do Tuesday 1-17-17

Stitch ALL The Things | Slytherin Project Bag

Happy Tuesday, friends! It’s been a busy week of more project bags around here. I finished the Slytherin Bag and took two orders this week. One for a single bag set and one for three bags. I also did some research on selling these on Etsy. After calculating all of the fees from PayPal AND the additional fees from Etsy, I’ve decided to go a different route. I’ll see how selling them by posting via social media goes, and may eventually set up part of this website as my store. The website is capable of doing that, so I’ll see how everything turns out after some time passes.

Stitch ALL The Things | FoxfieldProject Bag

This Project Bag set was particulary fun to do. I had a customer ask for a small grime guard for a 6 x 6 Q Snap, and then ask if I could make an accessory pouch to coordinate with everything. I didn’t have enough of the accent fabric on the bag, but did have extra of the Chain Mail print from Tula Pink’s Elizabeth line that matched the Tula Pink Foxfield print.

Stitch ALL The Things | Foxfield Accessory Pouch

My customer gave me a specific size she wanted, so I first made a test bag that helped me know how boxing the corners on the bottom of the bag would work. I also learned that I did not want any of the fusible fleece interfacing in my seam allowances. My second attempt was this bag and it turned out exactly the right size and sewed up perfectly. LOVE it!!

Stitch ALL The Things | Crouching Tiger Project Bag

My second customer for the week requested three project bags. I had so much fun getting to use a couple of different prints for them. I’ve said it repeatedly, but Tula Pink fabric shines so brilliantly in these bags! Love the Crouching Tiger print and being able to use the green apple glitter vinyl!

Stitch ALL The Things | Fox Nap in Purple Project Bag

I got to play with the Fox Nap print from Chipper again, except this time in the raspberry colorway. So cute!!

Stitch ALL The Things | Sea Siren Project Bag

The Alexander Henry Sea Sirens made another appearance. The smaller 13 x 13 bag only showcases one of the mermaids, but I think this one is pretty saucy enough to hold her own!

Next week I will update on my current cross stitching WIPS. I think this post has more than enough pictures!

This week’s To-Do list:

  • Sew Project Bags for two commissions
  • Sew extra bags to sell
