To Do Tuesday 6-6-17 | The Finish That Wasn’t

Hello, friends! The Mister just kindly reminded me that it was Monday evening and asked if I had written my blog post for Tuesday. Um…Nope! Time always seems to go by so quickly when we are here, and I lose track of the days without having the kids’ schedule to follow. At least he was paying attention, so I won’t be scrambling in the morning to get something written and posted. Thank you, Mister!

Stitch ALL The Things | I Cross Stitch

While we were traveling to Oregon I spent the time in the car working on my I Cross Stitch So I Don’t Kill People WIP. I wasn’t quite finished by the time we made it to Salem, but was having such fun that I decided to spend a few extra nights working on it so I could have a finish. I happened to pack another kitted chart for travel in case I made good progress on this one, so I didn’t feel bad about pushing to a finish. On the last evening of working on this, I was so close to being done when I realized that the entire right hand side was off by one stitch to the right, and one stitch too high. I started the top corner round motif wrong, so the rest was off too.

Stitch ALL The Things | I Cross Stitch

I was so mad that I just put all of my stitching away for two days. I finally quit pouting, grabbed my embroidery scissors and started snipping all of the little X’s. Yes, I used scissors despite the rule of “take out your stitching using the same tool with which you stitched it”. I was careful with the scissors and, quite frankly, too irritated at having to rip everything out to be bothered with patiently and gently pulling all of the threads back out with my needle. After having cleaned up the fabric from loose threads and fluff, I folded it and put it away. At this point I have at least two days worth of stitching left on it, and that will fill my travel days back home at the end of summer.

Stitch ALL The Things | Ships Manor Mystery Halloween Town SAL

After putting away I Cross Stitch, I pulled out my Ship’s Manor Halloween Mystery Town Stitch Along (SAL). Parts 1 and 2 had been released, and I have been working on this one trying to catch up before part 3 releases on the 7th. I was hoping to get the house finished before writing this post, but my fingers weren’t nimble enough to accomplish that. I am still happy that I’ve got maybe an hour’s worth of stitching left and then this will be ready for Part 3. I don’t think I’ll start the third part right away though, as I have been itching to get back to work on Sleepy Hollow. I’ve just got the border and the quote left to do on that one, but it’s going to take some time since the border is quite detailed and has beading on it as well.

That’s it for my stitching this week. As far as the house goes, I’ve been chasing Daddy Long Legs down, and we’ve been cleaning up the flower beds here and trimming up the raspberry bushes. This week I’ll be digging out the ridiculous Calla Lillies (that I can NOT stand AT ALL) in the hopes that eventually, someday, maybe, they’ll go away. I hope you are all enjoying the beginning of summer time! I can’t wait to read what ya’ll have been up to!

This week’s To-Do list:

  • Catch up on Ship’s Manor SAL
  • Dig up the Calla Lillies

To-Do Tuesday 4-25-17 | More Project Bags

Hello, my friends! This week’s post will be brief, as I am having to write it from my phone. For some reason my computer doesn’t want to load the back end of the website. Weirdness!

Last week I finished my last order of Project Bags before summer. I special ordered some Outlander fabric for this order. I was not thrilled with the plain cotton fabric from them. I will not be ordering that fabric again. It felt like Walmart fabric, but with quadruple the price. Ugh. If I do order from them again, it will only be printed on Kona cotton.

My customer requested Wonderland fabric for one of her bags. I am not a fan of Alice In Wonderland, at all, but really loved how this bag turned out. So adorable!

The third bag was also a special request fabric, and this one is called London Underground. She found it on Etsy. Such a fun fabric!

The fourth bag was from Tula Pink’s Tabby Road line in the Blueberry colorway.

Stitch ALL The Things | Sleepy Hollow WIP

I wanted to share a picture of my Sleepy Hollow cross stitching WIP. Other than the backstitching, I’ve completed the graveyard, Headless Horseman, and the horse. I stopped my rotation and am working solely on this one. I am having too much fun to switch to another WIP!

This week I am working on my final commissioned order before summer. Another 25 zip-top bag order. So I will be busy the next couple of weeks!

This week’s To-Do list:

  • Commission for 25 Zip-top bags

To-Do Tuesday 3-14-17 | Santa’s Village

Hello, friends! A quick post tonight. I couldn’t take pictures of the bags I’ve made this week, but I made sure to take one of one of my cross stitching WIPs. Santa’s Village is the WIP I work on over the weekends. I love this one so much. I finished Santa’s House and Santa, with the exception of the berries on the wreath and Santa’s eyes. I tried so hard to do french knots, which I’m really good at, but since these were one-strand knots they kept slipping to the back of the fabric. So frustrating. The after re-doing them 5 times the Mister suggested that I use beads. That’s a pretty common substitution in cross stitch. I didn’t want to give up, but decided I was wasting too much time and there are quite a few more french knots called for throughout the pattern. So I ordered some Delica beads. Once I get this piece on some 24″ scroll rods I ordered for it, I’ll put the beads on. Ignore the wavy top border on this, the tension on my Q-Snap is wonky.

Stitch ALL The Things | Santa's Village Cross Stitch WIP

This week I have two more bags to make and then we will be getting ready for a quick trip to Oregon for Spring Break. It will be really busy, so I may not have much progress to show next week. When I get back I’d really like to make a handbag out of some amazing fabric I picked up. I also plan to finish Mister’s quilt and start on the Bargello. I really need to schedule more quilting time into my days, and since the year is already a quarter of the way gone, I don’t want to delay. Summer time comes really quickly and that will take away more time. So no more putting off the quilting!

This week’s To-Do list:

  • Finish commissions
  • Prep for trip

To-Do Tuesday 2-28-17 | Sewing For Myself

Howdy, Friends! It’s Tuesday and time to check our lists! This past week all of the sewing I did was for myself. It was great! I was still sewing project bags, so I did heave a bit of a sigh about that, but I was beyond happy to get some project bags made for my own cross stitching WIPS.

Stitch ALL The Things | Alexander Henry Skulls and Roses Tattoo Project Bag Set

I decided to make myself a travel project bag. My current cross stitching car project is I Cross Stitch So I Don’t Kill People by Clouds Factory. I was stitching this chart on aida fabric, and was constantly making mistakes and having to rip stitches out. My black floss was so old that it was shredding. I hated stitching on the aida, so on our recent trip to pick up the kids I stopped stitching and decided to start over. I had some 28 count Jobelan fabric in Antique White by Wichelt in my stash, so I cut that to size, serged the edges, and put it on my Q-Snap. Then I made the travel Project Bag to match my Grime Guard, using my absolute favorite Alexander Henry print I think I’ve only mentioned it 5 bazillion times. I also used black glitter vinyl, but that’s not popping out in the photo. I LOVE this bag! Super thrilled with this finish!

Stitch ALL The Things | Project Bag Stitching Set

The best sewing accomplishment for me this week was to make this Christmas Village project bag set. I previously purchased the entire Country Cottage Needleworks Santa’s Village cross stitching pattern set as well as all of the coordinating Just Another Button Company buttons and called for specialty flosses. I have been chomping at the bit to get started on this, but decided to finish my current weekend stitching WIP before I had a new start. Otherwise, I’d have no room in my rotation for stitching Santa’s Village. In the meantime I found the perfect coordinating fabric to make a matching project bag, Christmas Village by Fabri-Quilt. I patiently waited until I had some free sewing time to get this one done, and as soon as that time was available I got to work! I am so happy with how this one turned out!

Stitch ALL The Things | Christmas Village Accessory Bag

I decided to add some glitter vinyl to the accessory pouch to bling it up a bit. Love the reindeer on the back of the bag!

Stitch ALL The Things | Filled Project Bag

As soon as I finished taking pictures, I filled that baby up! I fit my 11 x 11 Q-Snap, all twelve charts, flosses and buttons inside the bag, and I still have some room to spare! Not that I need it, but if I’m headed out for a doctor’s appointment (and the inevitable wait in the waiting room) I can throw my keys and wallet in there and go.

I have to admit to feeling like I’m floundering this year with my sewing. I have some free sewing time, and I’m just not sure what to do with it. I’m worried that if I start a new quilt, I’ll get stopped half way through (like with the Mister’s quilt) to make more project bags and then lose steam on the quilt (like with the Mister’s quilt). I’m not sure if the Great Project Bag Sewing Spree of 2017 is over, or if I should dedicate time to making a bag per day until I get enough stock to launch a store on the website. Or if I should just let it die down and only sew them as requested so that I have time to quilt. And then, summer is coming up shortly and I plan on not doing any consistent sewing then since we’ll be at our Oregon home and spending our time working on it. Sigh. Like I said… floundering. I think with maybe another week or two passing that I will have a better idea of what I should do.
