To-Do Tuesday 11-8-16 | Stitchy Goodness

This week was an odd one. My bad headache turned out to be some strange illness that’s going around. I ended up having dull headaches all week and would get worn out and clammy with the slightest activity. I sort of felt like I was on the tail end of having the flu. So weird. I got tired of sitting around waiting to “feel better” so on Sunday I did a bit of minor sewing. I made two grime guards for my Q Snap frames. I also gridded up some black aida in preparation of stitching Let’s Sew designed by Ursula Michael for Imaginating. I got a small start on it Sunday evening.

Stitch ALL The Things | QSnaps Grime Guards Charts

I recently ran across a Flosstube video on youtube on gridding your cross stitch fabric that I loved. She uses Sulky Sliver (shown on white Aida in picture above) instead of thread and it really makes a huge difference when pulling out the gridding threads. The Sliver is a flat metallic type tape that you can’t sew through. When I used thread on Whacky Witches I kept stitching through my gridding threads and that was a nightmare to remove. Her technique of gridding also gets it done so much quicker. I am using this method from now on! I am gridding some white aida to have ready for my I Cross Stitch Quote chart.

Stitch ALL The Things | Burlesque Zombie Portrait

The Burlesque Zombie Portrait is my current cross stitching UFO. I didn’t get very much stitching time in on it this week. There is A LOT of confetti in the frame part of the chart, and it makes for slow stitching. I can tell this is going to be a longer term WIP than I anticipated. It’s on a scroll floor frame, so it’s not portable. We have two long travel days coming up, so the Let’s Sew and I Cross Stitch projects will be great to work on in the car. Having three WIPs will also give me a nice rotation and enough of a break from the Burlesque Zombie that I won’t get too tired of it.

In other sewing news, on Monday I was able to finish the bag I was working on. I am saving pictures for a Finished Friday post. This week I need to work on another bag, and I’d like to make a pillow out of my Halloween Town cross stitch finish from a couple months ago.

This week’s To-Do list:

  • Start new bag
  • Work on Burlesque Zombie Portrait cross stitch WIP
  • Make Pillow

To-Do Tuesday 10-25-16 | A Lazy Week

Happy Tuesday! This past week I did not get any sewing done. I was in full on procrastination mode. I spent a lot of time hanging out with the Mister, and I loved every moment of it. Sometimes you just need that time to step away, relax, and be present with the people around you. I did get some cross stitching done in the evenings though, and am excited to share a finish for Clue 8, and some progress on the ninth, and final, clue! I am so happy to be so close to being done. I have one, maybe two, evenings left to stitch on this. Once this is done I’ll be picking up an old WIP that I’ll talk about next week, as well as starting work on a new pattern. I’ll be rotating between the two so that I won’t get burnt out on them.

Stitch ALL The Things | Whacky Witches in Stitches WIP

On Monday I almost managed to get all of the fabric and interfacing pieces cut out for a new bag. The white piece pictured is fusible fleece and not the main print. I can’t show that quite yet. I ran out of SF101 and Fusible Fleece while cutting out pattern pieces so I will be making a trip to Hobby Lobby tomorrow to get the rest of that and begin working on this bag.

To-Do Tuesday 10-18-16 | Apples & Decorations

Stitch ALL The Things | The Slaughter House Bone Yard

Happy Tuesday! It’s time to check our lists and see where we are at. Do we have things we need to take off of our list, for now, as the holidays are approaching? Or do we need to kick it into high gear and add stuff to our list to be ready FOR the holidays? This time of year is a great time to stop and take inventory of what we’ve got going on and what we need to finish by the end of the year!

Stitch ALL The Things | The Drunken Dead

This past week my sewing plans were a bit derailed. While the Mister made the quickest trip to Oregon in the history of quick trips (2 days driving, 1 day there, 2 days driving back), the kids and I busied ourselves with weeding the yard and then putting up our Halloween decorations. I was late this year with that and almost skipped it, but the life-sized coffin that a friend gave me to use for my decor made me pull out the decorations. There was no way I could skip a year after having been given that! It’s awesome! Of course, all of that was done on 95+ degree days, so we were wiped out. We had gorgeous mid-80s weather the day before Mister left, but after that our reprieve from the heat went with him. As soon as he returned the weather cooled down a few degrees and it looks like we’re mid-80s to low 90’s for the next week. I can’t wait until Halloween gets here! The temps only go down after that day!

Stitch ALL The Things | Apple Pie Filling

When the Mister returned home he brought back a bunch of apples that his sister had picked for us from our tree at the Oregon house. To say I was overwhelmed with the amount of apples would be an understatement. I had never cooked with more than 6 apples at one time before in my life! I know nothing about canning, and didn’t even have an apple peeler/corer/slicer. Unless you count two teenage kids, and then I actually DID have a peeler and a corer! And they were fantastic at their job! We got through 2/3rds of the apples before I gave up on all things apple and asked a friend if she’d like the rest. Thank heavens she said YES!

Stitch ALL The Things | Making Apple Butter

We made enough filling for 4 deep dish apple pies, and 2 apple cobblers. I also chopped somewhere between 8 to 10 cups of apples for future apple-y dishes, and I filled my massive crockpot with a large amount of apple slices that became two quart-sized jars of Apple Butter. One ended up in the freezer while the other is in the fridge. I couldn’t remember the last time I had apple butter, but when I tasted this I was thrilled with how it turned out! DELISH!

Stitch ALL The Things | Finished Clue 7 Whacky Witches In Stitches

With our busy week the only thing I managed to get done was to finish the tiny amount of stitching that was left on Clue 7 of Whacky Witches in Stitches. I’ve started working on Clue 8 and I’m still hopeful I can finish this project by Halloween!

This week I am planning on starting a sewing project I can’t say much about yet. I just got the hardware in yesterday, so I can start cutting fabrics and begin fusing interfacing tomorrow. I also plan to continue to work on my Whacky Witches.

This week’s To-Do list:

  • Continue Stitching on Whacky Witches
  • Work on secret project

To-Do Tuesday 10-11-16 | A Week of Finishes

Happy Tuesday, friends! It’s time to check our lists and plan for the next week! I am happy to say that I’ve got a couple of finishes to share, and some progress on my cross stitching.

Stitch ALL The Things | The Alpine Quilt

I was thrilled to have finished The Alpine Quilt this past week. After finishing it, I had one day to take pictures and get a Finished Friday post written before the Mister left for Oregon. Since we are in the desert and Fir trees aren’t in abundance, I actually considered taking my quilt and helper kids to some of the stores in town that had their Christmas Decorations up to take a picture. Can you even imagine walking into your local Walmart and seeing some crazy woman trying to take pictures of a quilt near the fake Christmas trees??! It was a crazy moment in my head, for sure. Then I came to my senses and remembered the tree that the town decorates every year for Christmas. As soon as the kids came home from school I shoved them, and the quilt, into the car and headed to the park to take the picture. We won’t talk about the frustration of trying to stay out of the sun, but not stay in the too shady area and then me unknowingly standing on top of a fire ant hill while trying to direct the kids. Did you know that most Arizonans wear flip-flops year round? Sigh. Let’s just end this by saying that I put on quite a frantic display in the middle of town, and that I was able to at least get one successful picture.

I also finished the reversible placemats and the napkins. I wasn’t too thrilled with the ornament side of the placemat, but I absolutely loved the cardinals side of it. And the striped napkins? LOOOOOVE!!

Easy Bind Mug Rugs | Stitch ALL The Things

In case you missed it, my friend, Theresa of The Fig Farm, also posted my guest post tutorial on Easy-Bind Mug Rugs this weekend. If you missed it, you can read the tutorial HERE. I absolutely loved these Halloween-themed mug rugs and they are super quick to make!

Stitch ALL The Things | Whacky Witches in Stitches

Lastly, I have made some progress on my Whacky Witches in Stitches cross stitching. I wanted to get a bit more done on this, but my evenings ended up being much busier than anticipated. Still, I just love this witch and I am very close to being done with this clue.

This week I am going to work on the Christmas Mug Rugs for the Oregon house and think about what project I want to do next. I may have some secret sewing in my future as well.

This week’s To-Do list:

  • Make Mug Rugs for Oregon House
  • Continue working on Wacky Witches WIP
